Was just curious how many other DC Tri Club members would be in the Poconos freezing their butts off with me at the Half Ironman this Sunday 10/2?
I will be there freezin with ya!!
I'll be there too. Anyone need a bed for Saturday night? I'm solo and have a room at the finish with double beds.
I'll be there and racing incognito (my DC Tri gear covered by warmer layers) if the weather forecast doesn't improve.
Hey everyone! I'm a new member of DC tri- and I was thinking about signing up for this race in 2012. Did you like it? I know it's somewhat new to the 70.3 series...
It's hard to say cause the swim got canceled due to all the rain the area had gotten that week. The bike course was pretty tough with a lot of hills. Was the first race I had been in where I saw people walking their bikes up some of the hills. Logistic wise they had some issues with traffic and spectators they needed to improve upon but overall I would say it was a decent course.
Hmm. Ok, good to know. Is there a better half ironman in the DC ish area in September or October?
I can't think of an official "Ironman" races in the area during those months but there is the 70.3 Rev3 at Cedar Point race. Not sure if you consider OH DCish or not and I haven't done the race yet but heard it is a pretty good one. I am doing that one in 2012. There is also Savageman at Deep Creek and Patriots Half in Williamsburg, Virginia. all of which are in Sept.
There is a Half Full triathlon in Ellicot City Md. It's 70.0 instead of 70.3 miles. 0.9 swim, 56 bike, 13.1 run. It's close enoug to DC that you can drive to the race or spend a weekend or two riding the course beforehand without the need of a hotel.
I've raced Diamondman twice and it is a nice run, smaller race up in Dear, DE. Other Tri Club members are done Patriot's and really like it too.
Patriot's Half is 8 September
Delaware Diamondman is 9 September
Great- thanks for all of your help!
