has anyone had past experience with Gran Fondo Alleghany Highlands in Clifton Forge, Virginia?
1. course comment?
2. how far is the course from the main town?
3. which hotel is best to stay?
4. any pics of past event?
thanks in advanced
Haven't done the ride as its only in its 2nd year, but I have done the climbs and ridden in the area.
While the ride/climbs will be challenging, its not one of the "toughest" fondo's in the region.
If you like a little R&R in the mountains, I'd recommend trying to score a cabin in Douthat State Park. These cabins are very nice!
Also, a buddy of mine is putting on a Gran Fondo outside of Harrisonburg: "Jeremiah Bishop's Alpine Loop Gran Fondo"...it may actually rival the Garrett County Diabolical Double in toughness - if you're looking for something a little more intense and closer to DC!
thanks for the Info, Andy..
actually, i am alittle 'hesistant' about the event as i never done a fondo and the elevation climb of 2200ft in 8 miles stretch seems to be very challenging.
