Alright so who is up for "Beauty and the Beast" next May? I need something to motivate me through my trainer rides this winter.

Will you be playing the role of the Beauty or the Beast, Joe?

Either way, I'm in! Looking to spend a few days afterwards sampling and making sure all the Cruzan rum hasn't gone bad there....

Ahh Andy after considering all the rum our group will consume I am sure I will pass as a Beauty.

And whats with limiting rum sampling until after the race? If you were a stronger athlete you could drink some before too...but I guess you are not strong enough.

Well, I definitely know that I am not strong enough for rum. But I am ready to 'try' the beast! All signed up! How else is in?

The rum is great. The race is awesome. The sunburn wears off. But the Bananas Foster with 151 the night before the race is to kill for.

Sooo, that means you're in right Eric? Babies like rum, I think...

When you give it to babies you don't call it rum.. you call it bed time nip.

Joe, so you are serious about this race! You know there's a happy hour on Thursday and what that leads to. I better be careful after this one or I might join you in St. Croix.

All you need is a little rum Hugh and you will be ready to sign up. Its perfect timing for CDA.

Last night I had a dream I was attempting The Beast (not that I've ever even been to St. Croix). It was dark out and there was a sheer drop off the road into an abyss and no guardrails, so if you fell over on your bike you plunged to your death. Me thinks I'm nervous about Savageman...

Joe, let me see after HH on Thursday. I'll be there late as I have a cross country meet that afternoon.

It looks like from a map that St. Croix is quite close to St. John, St. Thomas, Tortola, even Puerto Rico. Re a Caribbean vacation built around this race, is it easy or hard to go from island to island?

There are inter-island ferries that you can take that are like $50 or less each way.

Inter-island: St Thomas is the easiest/cheapest to get to. Both ferry and sea plane go various time each day. It's also the most populated and not as "quaint". St John is a short/cheap ferry ride from St Thomas but you need to go through St Thomas from St Croix (no direct ferry). It is very nice, amazing beaches, etc. Puerto Rico, Vieques, Culebra are all possible via puddle jumper (air) and PR is going to have a ton of options. Tortola and the BVI (Jost van Dyke, Virgin Gorda, Peter Is., ect) -- I know you can get there from St Thomas, but not sure about direct ferries/flights.Personally I would go to any of the other BVI before Tortola but I like the less crowded locations.

All of these are better than Hains Point but I prefer St John.

I did straight in from Miami last time, and it was convenient but SUPER expensive.

Next year I'll likely fly into St. Thomas (flights from DC are 280ish r/t) and take the ferry over ($90 round trip), and possibly take an extra day to explore...have to becareful though because what I have found so far is that the ferries to St. Croix only run Thursday-Monday.

Can it be May already?

I'm about 90/10 on this. To those who are going, thinking of staying a few extra days after the race?

How can you go to St Croix and not stay a few days after the race? I mean there are important things to do post race like visit the Cruzan Rum Factory.

I need another HH to think about this one. Maybe I could be part of the support crew and bring my swim/run gear for the trip.
