Is anyone else planning to race the Terrapin Triathlon in College Park on Sunday morning? If so, I'll look for you there! I'll be the guy in the UVA gear at UMD!
If you're looking for an early season beginner friendly sprint triathlon, this UVA & UNC grad strongly recommends the Terrapin Triathlon in College Park, MD on Sun, April 13:
The race includes a 1/2 mile pool swim at UMD's Eppley Rec Center - the field is broken into 3 waves (15 minutes apart), and each swimmer swims 8 laps around a small triangular course. The 13 mile bike course is probably the best part - an approx. 3 mile campus course that cyclists ride 4 laps around, passing Maryland's Byrd Stadium, Cole Field House, and several academic buildings. The run is a simple out and back 5K course on paved sidewalks. The small transition area is easy to manage, you can park in the Eppley Rec Center lot making for a very short walk to transition, and the Eppley Rec Center locker room bathrooms beat using portajohns in the dark any day.
Plus, there is a relay option available too.
Cost is $80. Registration closes on March 31 and is limited to 150 participants, so if you're interested, be sure to register ASAP!
