Open Water Swim Practice this weekend
POSTED: 5/21/10 4:27 PM

Open Water Practices this weekend - CUBU Masters is hosting three open water practices this weekend at Gunston Cove, Virginia, about 20 mi from DC. The weather and water conditions are expected to be good; the water should be about 70 degrees, same as last weekend. A BBQ will follow the Sat swims.

Saturday's (May 22) swims are from 7 - 8:15 am and from 8:30 - 9:45 am. Run options - with printed cue sheets for 5, 7, 8, 9, 10, and 12 mile runs - will follow the second swim. Also, a BBQ for all will be held at the Gunston Manor beach head after the second swim.

The Sunday (May 23) morning swim is from 8:30 - 9:45 am.

The course will consist of three buoys just offshore in 2.5 to 6 feet of water. One circuit around the 3 buoys will be 500 meters, accurate to within 1.5 meters.

The cost of the swim is $15 to help support the Gunston Manor homeowners association and also to defray the cost of the safety and logistics support network that will be put in place. Swimmers can do both swims on Saturday if they prefer for $20. There is no cost for the runs and BBQ. These swims are open to ALL registered USMS swimmers, so please feel free to invite friends as long as they are registered.

See directions below to Gunston Manor. There will be a support team once you enter the community to assist with directions and parking, however, carpooling is highly recommended.
