My name is Sarah and I’m volunteering with the Chesapeake Bay Foundation (CBF) this summer. CBF is a non-profit organization dedicated to protecting and restoring the Chesapeake Bay and its rivers and streams. As a way to connect the cycling community to environmental issues, and other like-minded cyclists in the Bay watershed, we have developed a program called Cyclist for the Bay.
It’s simple, easy, fun, and free! As a Cyclist for the Bay folks simply take the pledge to:
Ride their bicycle instead of a car whenever possible to reduce the harmful effects of vehicle emissions.
Ride their bike to work at least once a week, if circumstances allow.
Promote cycling as an environmentally-friendly means of transportation.
Spread the word that vehicle exhaust contributes more than one-third of all the nitrogen pollution entering the Bay from the air.
Encourage other cyclists to join the fight to protect and restore the waterways, farmlands, and forests of the Bay region.
By taking the pledge, cyclists will receive a free CBF water bottle, two cool Cyclist for the Bay stickers, a discount in our CBF on-line store, and automatic enrollment to CBF’s Action Network where they can opt to receive information on pertinent Bay issues that are important to them. The Cyclist for the Bay website also a great on-line resource for all things Bay area cycling and includes links to routes and local cycling clubs, organizations and events in the region.
We would love to work with your team in building our Cyclist for the Bay program and on-line Cyclist Network. I would be happy to talk further with you about your interest and brainstorm how we can combine our efforts and resources to promote cycling in the Mid-Atlantic. Please check out our Cyclist for the Bay website at www.cbf.org/cyclist. We are still building our Cyclist Network in Maryland and Virginia and would love to have you be a part of it!
Whether you ride to work or for fun, ride on the road or in the mountains, we want to hear from you!
