wow, faster than i thought. thanks to all of you for pushing the pace. it was great to see several of you pull ahead at the end and keep the pace as high as possible.
about the garmin data, i dunno. i don't think i have those differences on my model (or maybe i just don't know how to use it).
llago - Sorry about the no-show! I left for vacation for a few weeks and didn't have access to the internet. I will be resuming my training next week after the DC Tri. I'll hit you up.
Thursday:
Much tamer!
1:00 (1 hour) zone 2 with
10 mins at zone 3-4 (not 5--whew!)
See you at the stop sign at 6:30a!
Saw you guys down there this morning, but didn't join in because my legs felt like crap. Plus on the way down there, I ejected a bottle that flew right into the freaking river (under the kennedy center), so it just wasn't my day I guess.
i think most of us were surprised at how much we hadn't recovered from tuesday's workout--that thing was a bruiser! pretty steady pace today in the low 20s. See you all Tuesday and good luck to any of you competing this weekend!
Before I forget, plan for Tuesday:
Bring your shoes!
1:00 zone 1/2 with
3x9 mins at zone 5 built in
then 15 min running at zone 2
I anticipate we'll be doing long loops. After the warm up, 9 mins should take us from the gate by the golf course to the top of the long loop by the Lincoln. Then we can regroup and rest on the way back to the gate for the next interval.
Hope to see you Tuesday!
Sounds good, slowtwitchva.
Both gates are locked w/ fencing extended down towards the water making it very difficult to get around.
That did that last year around the 4th too. Something to do with the fireworks I think.
Yeah you definitely don't want to cross the fencing. Last year the Park Police were staked out on the other side of the fence escorting people back to the gate.
This is my suggested alternate route that minimizes cross-traffic turns and it's only 1.5 mi short of the regular long lap.

IIRC, they store the fireworks at HP while prepping the reflecting pool / Wash. Monument area for the Fourth -- hence the security. (Wouldn't want a 18-inch mortar shell getting messed with).
I was unsuccessful getting through to the Park Service to figure out when it's going to open up again, but will let you know if/when I find out more.
In case you'd like some training guidance, for this week, since I raced last weekend, I've got a REALLY easy week planned:
biking for about 70 minutes, zone 1-2 on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Let's reconvene on this thread when we know HP is open again. If anyone has any new info between now and then, please share!
The gate near the golf course parking lot was open tonight around 6 pm. And there were big packs of riders heading that way.
Anyone hit up Haines Point this morning? Are the gates still closed? Open?
Both gates were closed this morning.
Anyone know if we are back on tomorrow? I remember last year the gates stayed closed for a few days post-4th. - RT
They were open this morning (Monday) ~6:45 am. And were still open when I came back by ~9.
This afternoon (Monday), the gates were open and all the trucks out of the park. A few trailers were across the street from the FDR Mem. entrance, but otherwise it looked like it's good to go.
Alright! After Philly, I'm back to building base. Tomorrow planning to do a nice steady effort for the whole time. Should be good for pace lines and checking I'm to see how your aerobic base is coming along. Big gears for building power. See you at 6:30!
I just officially joined DC Tri today, so this will be my first group ride! What kinds of paces are folks expecting to push?
