15 mins doesn't count as a long interval?
And I, for one, am happy to let you pull the whole way if that's what you're looking for!
I was pretty excited to join the ride for the first time, but gave up when I saw how windy it is today. It may sound like a wimpy excuse, but I ended up in the hospital the last time I rode on a windy day on a trail I didn't know well and got blown off my bike...
Would love to hear how were the conditions today, as from the map it seems that Hains Pt. is pretty exposed.
Thanks, and hope to see you guys next week!
Real windy. Weather says about 25 with 35 gusts? Feels a bit more than that even. I went down then rode a bit and wimped out. Was lazy all week, so I never changed out of my race wheels/tires, which made it rough. I just wish that other guy on the deep wheels hadn't been out there riding straight and making me look stupid.
I think Patrick and Brady are still down there toughing it out while I'm back in my nice, windless, apartment.
man, Brian, I don't know how you lasted out there as long as you did with that disc. Crazy.
Yeah, it was super windy. The good news was that holding 30 down wind was super fun and pretty easy, but it was like climbing a mountain going into the wind, if you could keep your bike going straight.
I think it's good to have experience in crazy conditions because it helps you to be ready for anything on race day and that little bit of experience often translates directly into speed. But to be honest, your time would have probably been better spent on the trainer or sleeping in this morning.
I wimped out as well. Got all ready, walked out my front door and was hit with the wind. I still have my 808/disk aero setup on my bike, and thought better of riding with a group in that wind. So I went back in and went back to sleep.
Yeah, crazy windy out there, but great resistance training and EagleMan like conditions! During the "interval," I caught a gust of wind on the turn up the point and Patrick had "set sail" before I knew it!
Anyone else going to be there tomorrow am?
Totally. Weather looks perfect.
How does everyone feel about focusing on a 2x5 min set plus some steady state, sandwiched by warming up and cooling down?
So long laps:
lap 1: warm-up
lap 2: gate to gate zone 4/5, the rest steady state
lap 3: gate to gate zone 4/5, the rest steady state
lap 4: steady state, cool down
That should bring us to an hour.
Sounds good. See you then
Hey folks. I'm new in town, just joined the club and was thinking about joining you tomorrow. Can anyone answer a few questions? Start time is 6:30 am? I've been to the point before, where do we meet up? Road Bike or Tri bike? Any initiation rituals I should worry about? Thanks. Jason
I'm in for tomorrow.
@Gato
Corner of Buckeye and Ohio at 6:30 AM at the Stop Sign. People ride road and tri bikes. Although if you ride a tri bike, riding aero is frowned upon unless you are pulling.
Thanks. Don't worry, i don't pull unless i'm alone. See you there.
You are all FFFFAAAAAASSSSSSTTTTTTTTTT!!!!!!!!!!
Great to see so many people out this morning.
And thanks for the shout outs when you passed! ![]()
That was a good time. Maybe on Thursday I'll take some turns on the front. I said "maybe".
Jason
Great group out there today. Maybe by the end of the year I'll be able to stay with the pack for a few laps. I said "maybe" :)
Kevin
I was out there with some of the Team Lipstick girls this morning, and I just feel the need to remark on how impressive the "Peloton of Doom" was. I hope that someday I can be able to keep up with you guys :p
Great to see so many of you out there this morning. If it makes any of you feel any better, I was told that one of the NCVC guys who always seemed to have that extra power at the end of the interval is a former pro.
If you can all some out regularly, we'll all get much faster early in the season. Thanks for showing up!
(fingers crossed for no rain Thurs am)
There was an NCVC guy at the front? I wouldn't know anything about what was going on up there.
Looks like a 50/50 chance of rain by 8am. I'm going to head down as long as it's not raining at 6 when I leave.
That was a nice steady breeze--
