That's the plan. What time are we clipping in again?

Any word on when the fireworks business will take over HP? I was planning to head there on Thursday AM...
How was it today?
It was open today. They had trucks near the intersection at Independence that looked loaded with fireworks, so it may be closed by Thursday.
I talked to a USPP officer and he confirmed that once again will they be shutting down HP for safety purposes for the fireworks. He couldn't confirm the exact time, but indicated that it would be in the next few days and for a week or so. Based on the fact the mesh fencing was already up around the gates and down at the Point, I'm guessing it will be closed by Thursday AM, but you never know.
I'm planning to ride the hills on Military (in Arlington) the next week (Tu/Thur AM) or so until HP is back open. If anybody is interested ping me a private message and we can coordinate.
Also, on the topic of safety (and not trying to be a safety nazi here)... since there were a lot of new faces this morning, here are a few friendly "General Rules" reminders (as adapted from the SAT Ride post).
General Rules: (PLEASE READ)
(1) No riding in aerobars in the pack unless you are pulling in front or slightly off the back.
(2) Call out pot holes, obstructions, cars, runners, everything and relay it to riders behind you. No matter how obvious you think it is.
(3) Don't roll through a stop sign and lead the group into a dangerous scenario - Slow up and then regroup.
(4) If you're new to the ride, don't be intimidated to ask questions. We may not always appear very chipper early on a Tu/ Thurs morning but we all want a safe, fun ride and are happy to answer questions.
Heads up - just heard that Hains has been locked down. Trainer mornings...
I found that out the hard way as well.
I did do some loops in the RFK parking lot. It's a short loop but good for working on some bike handling with the sharp turns.
I always forget: do they just have the gates closed, or most of the rest of Ohio drive too?
They have the gates closed and fenced off so that the entire point is closed. West Potomac Park is open so you can do those loops from the golf course.

Anyone interested in hill repeats in Rock Creek Park Thursday morning and probably next week?
The 1.6 mile RFK Stadium grand prix course is a great loop to ride. But watch out for the gravel and broken glass (the broken glass being from DC United tailgaters!) We did a 10 mile race there as part of the JDRF Real Estate Games about 3 weeks ago, and the gravel & broken glass was a big problem in the morning before they swept it away! There's also zero shade cover there!
I'm gonna be doing some loops at RFK Gran Prix tomorrow morning if anyone wants to join. As said before, it's not ideal, because there are a couple hairpins, but there are some good straightaways where you can crank it.
I'll be there at 0630 or so for 20 miles or so with some pickups.

I might join the RFK loop. Also a possibility is Anacostia park which is basically a straight a way along the river with a lollipop loop around the north Pavilion. Right now the north half of the park has new pavement- the south end has one sketchy section (under a bridge) but you can turn around at that point. Might be a good option when all the south end is completed later this summer.
Hey all... If anyone is interested in doing some hills in Arlington, that's my plan tomorrow morning. I'm, ahem, a bit slower than the typical crowd. Ping me if you're up for it.

Andrew Cotter is heading out of the Italian store in Arlington at 6:30 to do some hills. It’s about an hour’s ride with regrouping spots. All are welcome to join him.
RFK was pretty empty this morning. About a 1.65m loop. Some glass but once you know where it's at after the first loop it's not bad- just a couple sections. The track is so wide that even the hairpin turns are easy to take at 20mph on a bike.
I think I'm going to take Nick's suggestion tomorrow morning. Hill repeats on Ridge Rd. From Broad Branch up to Glover. It takes me ~5 minutes up to that point if I remember right, so either 5 or 6 hill repeats, recover on the way back down. I'll try to be at the bottom at 6:30 if anyone is interested.
Does anyone know if Haines is back open after the fireworks? Thanks!
Yep - all clear. Did some laps this morning.
What's the workout like tomorrow? Zone 1 for 60 minutes?
