If anyone else is just "Attractive and Average" (A group) here's an idea for tomorrow. 1:20 at zone 2 with 15 minutes (about one long loop) at zone 4. See you out there!
I'm more Beast than Beauty, and definitely not Best but "B", but it sure was gorgeous out there this morning...
Sure was! Thanks for a great workout everyone. It seems like we pulled together a couple other groups too. That was a real solid interval. I know it turned me inside out!
FRIENDLY REMINDER: when drafting, please do NOT use your aerobars. More than it being a safety concern, which is the primary issue, it can irritate and unsettle the people behind you. Especially at speed, you want everyone to be comfortable in close quarters, not nervous and unsettled, so just try to keep a very straight line, your eyes ahead to anticipate small speed changes, and your hands near your brakes unless you're pulling!
See you out there Thursday!
hey boys and girls! this has been a run heavy week, so i've got 1:10 of zone 2 scheduled for tomorrow. since we know that never happens, i'm guessing that unless someone has something else you'd like to do, that will turn into long loops with accelerations from the golf course gate around the bottom of the point to the second restroom. Andy and Andrew, you're in charge of the lead outs!
great ride this morning. good to see so many familiar and new faces adding to the groups.
Is there a group that rides at a slower pace during these rides? I've tried to meet up a few times but have always been a few min late (I"ll be there early on thurs!). I rode backwards this morning and I think I saw the group blow by (and lap me several times) I tried to hang on at one point near the entrance by the golf course (you guys were obviously doing recovery or something) and I was still struggling to keep up and then I saw the group pick up the pace. I looked down and literally 5 seconds later everyone had disappeared around the corner...
I was feeling slightly demoralized until I started reading the older posts and realized that you guys literally go 30+. Anyways if there's anyone out there that rides slower (sub 20?) that will be there in the mornings let me know.
Pam
Pam: I'm out there some mornings (and some evenings at 5:30 pm), definitely riding with less celerity. It might be wise for "B" groupers to post a day before, that they'll be there, and exactly where and when, for those still unsure about the meetup details.
Anyone planning on riding tomorrow AM before work? I will be out there on Ohio Dr in W Potomac Park around 6:00-6:15 am riding a sliver Felt Tri bike. Feel free to catch up (if you can!) and say hello!
Pam: You're welcome to join Marta and I (NTPers). We were out there this morning doing some slow and steady loops. We're trying to make it out every Tuesday and Thursday, but probably won't make it out this Thursday. We were averaging around 20-25 kph this morning. I ride a brushed aluminum Cannondale.
Gabby
Thanks Gabby, hopefully I'll see you out there next week! I"ll be there on Thurs with a few other NTPers if anyone else wants to come out.
Nice variety of groups out there this gorgeous morning.
There should be a decent sized slow(er) group, mostly NTP, going out tomorrow. We're going to meet at 6 and roll out at 6:15 at the same location as the everyone else- intersection of Ohio and Buckeye.
Hello!
I'd like to start joining the morning rides. I'm a swimmer that needs major improvement in the bike so I won't be able to keep up with the fast kids. Is anyone heading down for tomorrow morning's ride that is around a 16 - 18 mph pace?
Kristen
Hi Kristen,
Yes! Gabby and I ride at about that speed. We roll out around 6:30AM, the same time as the speedy kids. If you look at the post before yours in this thread it looks like there's a slow group that leaves a little earlier at 6:15, but I don't know if that's the plan for every week. Personally I'm a fan of those extra 15 minutes of sleep...;)
See you tomorrow!
Marta
Thanks Marta! I will look for you at 6:30a.m. tomorrow. I ride a gray/white Trek and will have a long blonde ponytail.
Hey Kristen and Marta,
I'll be there at 6:15 (goal time :)), we usually have around 3 people tues and thurs mornings that ride. I think we may be a little slower than you guys but I'm definitely up for the challenge :) Hope to see you out there tomorrow.
Pam
This is great to see other groups organizing. This means that you can always start out with the first group and get caught by the other or take a short cut if you get dropped to re-connect.
For the Attractive and Average A-group, here's a suggestion for tomorrow's workout:
1:10 zone 2 with
2 x 5 mins (a full short loop) at zone 3/4 pushing big gears and therefore a low cadence
Rolling out from the stop sign at 6:30.
OK Patrick if a short loop of Hains Point is 3.1 miles and you want to cover it in 5 minutes that would mean a pace of 37 miles per hour....I know you are fast but I am hoping I am missing something. I am finally in town and plan on dragging myself out there.
I remember reading somewhere that a guy set a lap record at IMAZ by doing the 3rd and final lap at an average speed of 37mph.
In that case, Patrick should easily be able to hold 37 for 5 minutes.
You can draft off my car at 37 mph because that's the only thing i'm driving at 37 mph around hanes point! See you guys out there tomorrow.
