The rides start this Tuesday, April 21 at 6:30.
Last year these rides were great and attracted a very good crowd will all different levels.
There is also a BBQ the first Tuesday of each month, starting May 5.
For more info, check out Conte's site.
Thanks very much for this post. Someone told me about these rides at the Brick-nic on Saturday and that they were very good, stressed hill workouts. They put you into three groups based on pace/level and had coaches/staff there to help out. This sounds like exactly what I need. I am planning on going next Tuesday.
Good points Steph!
I found this on the old site
"The rides are broken down into 3 groups: A/B/C and there are three different ride options, either the criterium loop (helps you work on climbing, descending and cornering), and the rolling hill ride out Military Hwy, and the "westernport wall" hill--which actually doesn't come close to recreating the actual 25% grade of the Westernport Wall on the Savageman course!"
I can only assume it will be the same this year.
I highly recommend this ride as a chance to get in some really solid hill work in a group setting. It definitely made a difference in my strength on the bike the last two seasons. But, other than the coaches for another un-named tri club(!), I've never seen any coaching related to this ride.
Another cool little thing about this ride...last year it got so big that they had the Arlington police blocking intersections in Ballston for us to get us through all the congestion. Not relevant to training at all, but entertaining nonetheless.
All the details can be found in the WORKOUT section of the website, so you don't have to dig in forum posts.
Also, the THIRD WEDNESDAY team LUNA CHICKS does a women's ride out of Arlington Conte's.
And the FOURTH TUESDAY team VELO BELLA does a women's ride out of the Bethesda Conte's.
I stopped by Conte's this weekend, and one of the shop folks said that they'll be starting up the Tuesday rides on April 20. I think it'll be the same setup as last year (including BBQ nites).
They start on April 27th (per the website). There are year round rides from Contes Bethesda on Thursdays.
I think the "Meet and Greet" social rides described on the web site are more relaxed rides, and they're only held once a month. While probably fun, I don't think they're the same sort of fun that the hill repeats offer . . .
Here's the link:
I stand corrected. thx.
The rides do start tomorrow, April 27.
However, the meeting place for now will be in the park next to the store, not the parking lot. The post-ride gathering place, including for the bbqs, will continue to be the parking lot.
Let's get it on
What time does the ride start? How far is the ride scheduled for? Thanks.
6:30 pm. Hour of rather hilly loops around Military Rd and Lorcom Lane area.
Simon tells me that this is very productive and worthwhile torture. Thinking I've run and biked enough hills for one week though already so I'll stick to spin for tonight and see you all next week! :)
Did they build more hills this year?
It was a shock to the bod to sprint up steep hills. Kind of thrilling, tho.
Next week: Free bbq.
As if one didn't get enough bbq this holiday weekend, it's First Tuesday at Conte's Ballston....
Are we riding in the rain?
Simon- don't jinx us. There will be no rain. its going away. (or so I'm hoping that my positive thoughts will send the rain away-- so far its come and gone through downtown dc, hopefully not coming back...)
