Specialized Recall: 2004 Roubaix
POSTED: 4/22/09 10:14 AM

Specialized is working with the Consumer Product Safety Commission to recall some 2004-era Roubaix road bikes and some 2009 model year mountain bikes.

The road bikes are being recalled because a riveted brake cable stop on the frame can come loose. The mountain bikes are being recalled because the handlebars can break. In both cases, the company and the CPSC are advising owners to stop riding the bikes immediately and return them to a Specialized dealer.

The Roubaix recall:
Specialized recall hotline: (877) 808-8154
CPSC recall hotline: (800) 638-2772

The Roubaix recall involved 2004 model year bikes in the following models: 2004 Roubaix Comp 18, 2004 Roubaix Comp 27, 2004 Roubaix Pro 18, and 2004 Roubaix Pro frameset models. Only bikes with a single rivet fastening the cable stop to the frame are subject to recall. Bicycles with a double rivet fastening the cable stop to the frame are not subject to recall.

The bikes were sold nationwide from September 2003 through August 2004 for between $1,600 and $4,000.

Owners should immediately stop using their bicycle and return their bicycle to a Specialized authorized dealer for an approved repair, at no cost to consumer. For additional information, contact Specialized toll-free at (877) 808-8154 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. MT Monday through Friday or visit the firm's Web site at
