Long Bike Loops
POSTED: 11/23/12 11:35 AM

I'm looking for 50-100 mile bike loops leaving from the Capitol HIll area.

I really enjoy the MacArther-Poolesville/WhitessFerry_WOD loop
http://runkeeper.com/user/AndreDahlman/activity/132616615

but I'm looking to mix it up a bit. Anything going NE or SE?

Thanks for any advice/ideas.

You could head out across the Key Bridge to the Custis Trail to WO&D, then head out to Point of the Rocks and cross back into Maryland. Then comes back down Whites Ferry/Darnestown Road to Seneca to River to Falls, etc...back into Georgetown and Capital Hill.

If you want some additional hill work, get off the WO&D at Dry Mill Rd. and climb it up to Clarks Gap a couple of times.

From Poolsville, add a loop to Sugarloaf Mt.

Those both look like great rides but they're very similar to the loop I've been working on.

Anyone have any recommendations headed East or South out of the City?

Also, what's the recommended route to loop in Sugarload Mt?

Thanks,

There is this epic one day ride called Total200. (http://www.total200.com). The route is south of DC and can be a little dicey in some sections but for the most part, once you are out of the city it's a very beautiful route. You can get to the start of this route without a car.

If you are mobile then one of my personal favorite rides just southeast of DC is called (I think) Beaches & Barns. Here are some details: http://ridewithgps.com/users/4269/routes.

Oh, I meant to take this opportunity to shamelessly plug our Cue Sheet section of the site. It's found in the left hand navigation rail under "Train"

http://www.dctriclub.org/index.cfm?fuseaction=Train.Cue_Sheets

Please leverage this asset to find rides OR if you have a great route please submit it so we can post the cue sheet for others to enjoy.

Ryan,

Thanks for those recommendations. Both the rides you listed and the Cue Sheets are a great resource. I'll be sure to check them out.

Man, 200 in a day huh? That seems like some tough work.
