Deep Creek Rides/Runs
POSTED: 5/09/11 10:43 AM

Hey Triathletes,

How's it going?

For those who don't know, I'm currently training for IronMan Canada scheduled August 28. I've heard Canada has a few high grade hills and I would like to start going to Deep Creek monthly or bi-weekly so I can get some training on those hills.

Regardless of speed, Deep Creek's bike course is probably the most humbling course there is around the DC Area and for those who haven't ridden these hills, you'll know what I'm talking about.

I am hoping to start going to Deep Creek and training at Deep Creek bi-weekly/monthly starting late this month till early August and was hoping to have a few members of the club join me. We can ride and run the hills, tri-talk, barbeque, make smores or whatever, camp out...It's going to be awesome.

Distance on the bike: 50-70 miles
Distance on the run: 8 miles +

Anyone already planning on going or interested in going with me? I'm in.

So who's in?

Thanks everyone.

PS - If there's already a thread on this topic, please refer me to it and I'll pry.

Just an FYI, me and a few others are in for the Garrett County Grand Fondo on June 25th. You get to ride Deep Creek area and get a fully supported ride - plus its for a good cause.

You know I'm game for heading up there whenever we can. Last year's Deep Creek training weekend was a blast, and you can't beat those hills for training!

However, the Gran Fondo is the same day as the Total 200, which I'm already signed up for. The only weekend in June I can make it is the 18th-19th. But starting the weekend of July 9th I can do just about any dates, outside of Rocketts Landing club championships.

Gran Fondo looks like fun. Anyone interested? I think I may sign up.

I'm going to throw out some other random dates:

July 9
July 30
August 6
August 20

In the event you're looking for something closer,
Mt. Weather is a great ride if you didn't already know of it.

I'm glad that there's so many interested members of the club who want to get out for this very humbling ride/run! Awesome.

I will look for a few dates that I propose and we can take it from there. Stay tuned.

Simon: Let us know when the deep creek ride is that you're talking about.

Man Ed it's killing me that you can't go. Other than that the 30th is a good weekend. Thoughts anyone? I'm gone the next weekend - sorry as the organizer it kinda counts - The 14th is the training tri and Luray - unless folks don't mind about loading on the same weekend as the training tri. Aug 21 may work - conflicts with Timberman and Irongirl (insert Irongirl joke at your own peril - I'm not...). Aug 28 is IMLOU, and the next weekend is Labor Day.

July 30th weekend works good for the IM WI training program schedule. Keep me posted if you are planning to go up any additional weekends.

I have a campsite reserved for July 4 weekend at Deep Creek State Park. If folks are considering training there over holiday weekend (in addition to Club trip on July 30), campsites are booking up quickly. I have site #66 on john garrett loop; there are a few next to this site still available. Would be great to have some additional company.

Hi Andrew,

Can I join you for this holiday weekend? I need it.

What do I need to do to book this campsite? Do they also have cabins available?

Either way, I'm in!
