In case you missed the movie when it showed on one night last month, it's showing again on Thur., Nov. 12, for one night only. It's a documentary of the recent 2009 Leadville 100 mountain bike race. The 100-mile race up in the mountains of Colorado includes 14,000 ft. of climbing (not all at once) and high-altitude conditions. Lance Armstrong was back at the race after losing to 6-time winner Dave Wiens in the 2008 race. Lance rode in the Leadville 100 just a few weeks after his return to the Tour de France this year.
The movie follows the battle between Lance and Dave as well as some of the middle-of-the-pack riders and other interesting personal stories. The cinematography is impressive, mostly because of the geographic setting. You'll be very surprised by how the race ends. It's kind of crazy, actually, but I won't give it away in case you don't already know.
Yeah, I know this isn't a triathlon movie but it is a long endurance event involving bikes and Lance is the best known endurance athlete on the planet. He'll also be competing in the 2011 Ironman Championship in Kona so he is returning to the world of triathlon where he got his start many years ago.
Unfortunately no theaters in D.C. are showing the movie this time around. The AMC theaters at Mazza Gallerie showed it in Oct. but not this time. I don't think any theaters in the nearby Maryland suburbs are showing it either. There are a few locations in Northern Virginia though. Check the official website for theaters and to purchase tickets.
UPDATE (2/16/10): The movie will be released on DVD and Blu-Ray in March 2010, according to the official website.
Exciting trailer for the film:
This movie was awesome... definitely go check it out if you can!
I'm glad you posted something on this. It looks very good and I'm going tonight. It is showing in Maryland, at three theaters, including two in Columbia (AMC at Columbia Mall, and Snowden Square). I live in downtown Silver Spring so Columbia is convenient. I'm planning to attend the 8 o'clock showing at AMC at the Columbia Mall. See you there if you go.
Columbia is too far away for me (live in VA, work in DC). At least I got to see the movie back in October. I hope they release it on DVD at some point.
It's showing again, 2.17.2010, at the Arlington Draft House:
Some tix still available for tomorrow night, Wednesday:
I won't be able to make it. It would've been nice to see it on the big screen again.
According to the official website, the movie will be released on standard DVD and Blu-Ray next month! No other details just yet.
Is anyone going this Wednesday? I missed it the 1st go round.
Can carpool from the Hill (or Metro Center if you drive to work). thx
Lisa, I was going to go, but I'm going straight from work.
Anybody else want to go? Bike movie and two cute girls. Well one cute girl and me, but if you're nice I'll share my French fries with you.
