Columbia: Which Bike Should I Bring?
POSTED: 4/27/09 2:28 PM

I've heard Columbia is hilly. Does it matter if I bring a Tri or Road bike? Just wondering because the road bike has that extra gear in the front.

I'll probably bring the Tri bike because it looks cooler, but I don't want to be the only dork who didn't know.

For what it's worth, based on the recommendations of several friends who have done it (including some very seasoned riders and coaches), I'm planning to ride my road bike.

I did it twice on my tri bike and felt fine on the hills just spinning up.

+1 to vatriathlete. I've done the course on my road bike (compact crank) and on my tri bike. Considering the tough run afterwards, I preferred my tri bike to help protect my legs a bit more for the run.

If I were just headed to Howard County for a bike ride, I'd use my road bike.

You'll be fine on either, or not, based on you as an athlete. As Lance said "it's not about the bike".
