Are any club members interested in a club-wide gear swap/sale? I know we all have bike gear, running gear and swim gear that we bought and never used, or used once and decided that piece of gear wasn't going to work for us.
I was thinking a gear swap/sale might be a good event to have before the race season starts. And for those new to triathlon, this could be a great way to get some of the tri gear you might need!
Anyone interested? With enough interest hopefully we can make this a reality!
I'm game. I have clothing pieces that I've used only once before giving me chafting issues, googles that don't fit my face, and random things I've collected over the years.
The other thing we can do is have a nutrition swap. Everyone brings whatever nutrition they have used but now hate or dislike and can grab whatever's in the pile as well.
I have so much stuff.
XXL Tri Top brand new unopened.
XL Tri Bottom brand new unopened.
Several XL Bike jerseys.
Carbon handlebars for a road bike (Hylix)
90mm stem (new)
Lots of other things I can't remember.
Yes! Great idea.
Looks like there is interest! I'll talk to the Board and start to organize something. Stay tuned for hopefully the first ever DC Tri Gear Swap!
If you are interested, the Freshest Prince of Saigon can offer up the entire Lake Anna complex the day before PeasantMan or after the race for this tri gear swapmeat. We can set it up in the kios area or BBQ area. I can make sure that there will plenty of tables available or you can set up in the grass area.
You could do one locally with the DCTri and another one at PeasantMan. We have other folks there besides DCTri folks. There will also be a few other tri clubs there. The Richmond Tri club is looking to bring their tent there.
If you want to do it at PeasantMan, I can heavily market it through our Facebook page and athlete's guide. The Aquilina sisters can run the show with the boy toy Jason doing the manual labor.
Per Mr. Troll, DCTri will order extra gear for storage. DCTri can bring it to PeasantMan and sell it there before the day of the race so that folks can purchase it for the race. DCtri can also have an info booth to recruit folks not affliated with any tri clubs or help DCTri alumni renew their membership.
Just let me know..
Love the idea, and as much as the PeasantMan idea is a great one, I wonder how it could be more open/ accessible to folks who ARENT going to be in Lake Anna? It would be a bummer to limit it!
I agree with Ellen -- any way to do it in March or April, while people are still figuring out their 'needs' would be good. Also, it would be helpful to coordinate with NTP, right?
I'd be interested in a local event in DC as I am not doing this particular triathlon!
Alright folks, we were able to arrange something! Please save the date for the gear swap - March 9. More information to come soon!
The Gear Swap will be Saturday, March 9 from 10:30-12:30pm at the West End Library (1101 24th St. NW, Washington, DC. (Foggy Bottom Metro). Further information (including a google docs link for sign-up) will soon be available in the newsletter, calendar and events page. Again, glad to see so much interest and hope we can make this a success!
Here is the link to sign up and to provide information on the gear you're bringing to the swap:
