Hello all,

Just wanted to give you a heads up that I will be hiring 17 - 18 ACHIEVE Coaches for the summer of 2011. Here is the job description copied below, note there are 2 levels of responsibility - Head coach and Regular coach and that both are paid positions. Please let me know if you are interested. I would love to have a DC Tri Club Member join us!

ACHIEVE Coach Recruitment
• Are you passionate about sharing how fitness and exercise can improve lives?
• Have you worked with youth and sports in the past?
• Do you have experience with youth coaching, nutrition, swimming, cycling, strength & flexibility training and/or running?
If you answered yes to any of the above questions, consider becoming a coach for ACHIEVE Youth Triathlon Summer Camps. We are looking for motivated individuals that have a passion for fitness and health. Ideally you will have a background in sports, and have experience working with youth, or in a youth related organization.
2011 Camp Dates: June 20 – July 29
Camp Days/Hours: Monday through Friday from 8:30 am – 12:30 pm
DC Kids Triathlon: Friday, July 29 (Camp concludes)
ACHIEVE Orientation: Early June – 8 hours spread over 2 days, and you are paid for your time

Pay: Coaches will be hired by the DC Department of Parks and Recreation and paid an hourly rate of $11.

Job Requirements
• Attend Pre-Camp Orientation
• Understand the ACHIEVE training manual and six-week training plan
• Coach athletes swim, cycle, run, strength & flexibility and nutrition
• Use creativity for motivating athletes
• Be on time and attend every day
• Be a role model to the athletes

Additional Background
ACHIEVE provides youth ages 9-14 with a fun, life-changing experience by introducing them to the sport of triathlon. Headquartered in Washington D.C. and acting in partnership or collaboration with local government and private organizations, ACHIEVE takes kids through a 6-week instruction and training program, provided free of charge and monitored by experienced and trained coaches. The ACHIEVE program helps kids master the fundamentals of swimming, cycling, running, and triathlon racing, as well as the essentials of proper nutrition, stretching, strength-training, and flexibility. The ACHIEVE program concludes each season with a timed short-course triathlon race, certified and sanctioned by USA Triathlon.
Washington Sports Events Management in a company that does large sporting events, one including The Nation's Triathlon in Washington, DC. The nonprofit arm is the ACHIEVE program.

ACHIEVE Head Coach Recruitment

Ideally you will have completed at least one triathlon, and have experience working with youth, or in a youth related organization. As a head coach you would be supervising and working with three other coaches. You will also be responsible for keeping track of attendance, communicating with the Program Director and tracking progress with bi-weekly time trials. ACHIEVE prides itself in providing quality coaches for its camps. We train every ACHIEVE Coach prior to the camp start.

Ideal ACHIEVE Head Coach Characteristics

• History of health, sports and/or fitness involvement in the sport of triathlon
• Triathlete, or has done a triathlon in the past
• Experience working with youth or sports oriented programs
• Coaching experience
• Motivated to share a love for exercise and nutrition with youth
• Ability to learn and teach skills and techniques to youth creatively and effectively
• Familiar with Google spreadsheets and how to use them

As a head coach you would be part of this process of helping youth learn to navigate the challenges of a triathlon, while instilling in them the essential life skills in fitness, exercise, discipline and self-confidence.
