Trek Speed Concept chain drop problems?
POSTED: 9/30/12 10:53 AM

Hey Trek SC owners: I've considering getting a Speed Concept (preferrably a 9-series and an older model, say 2010) but read a lot of about the chain drop problem.

Anyone cares to provide some feedback? Do you think it's worth the price?

Thanks!

No problems with 2011 models and later I am told. I have an 2011 SC 9.0 and I never once had that problem (hope I am not jinxing myself!) and I have probably ridden around ~600 miles on it so far and I do not go easy on the shifting, I test it's extremes all the time.

However, a mechanic at Spokes, Etc. told me about these K-edge chain catchers to protect the carbon frame that many Trek users have added and he thinks they should just come standard. I haven't invested, but thinking about it.

If you can find a close-out model on sale, it's worth the price, so hold out for that. They are nice bikes.

Thanks! I'll be sure to keep an eye out for closeouts.
