Would be nice to drive a little less far to one of these. :)
Close to home IM that doesn't involve the Potomac? Very intriguing. I wonder what that would do to ChesapeakeMan and B2B.
Tuan - not sure what it will do to those races, but it does mean you don't have to fly yourself five time zones away to do an IM.
There is a great possibility that this may happen! I know Bob Tubbs, co owner of Cedars of Willamsburg Bed & Breakfast, and he is the one working hard to bring the IM to Williamsburg. He added me to his Williamsburg Ironman Tri group on Facebook and will be posting updates there. Bob said at this point, everyone can just keep posting positive and supportive comments to public articles. Would be cool to have an IM there!
Being in my home town/old stomping (riding) grounds, I'll be the first one to sign up for this. Lots of scenic roads, the James is nice in September (mid 70's), and there's a lot of cool stuff around town.
Excited beyond belief.
It would be incredibly awesome if the bike course went through 64 tunnel into Norfolk. I doubt they could get the permits to interrupt traffic for that, but it would still be kick a$$. Not only would you swim in water, you would bike under water.
I'd do this in a heartbeat. Such a great location and the proposed timing in September or October is perfect!
William & Mary could host some events, as it does for some Bike Virginia years, and as Salisbury College does for Seagull Century. And you could hold pre- and post-race events on the historic colonial capital grounds.
This would be great! It's near my hometown of Hampton Roads and I'd definitely sign up.
Do you think that they were referring to this and not a full distance? Rev 3 is going to have a half and oly distance out there next year - http://rev3tri.com/news/new-2013-race-in-williamsburg-va/
No, it's definitely Ironman. The discussions are with WTC to bring it in. It's been an ongoing ordeal for a while now. Rev3 will be in June, IM Williamsburg would be in September.
Does anyone have any updates on this? This thread is the #1 result in google for "ironman williamsburg va" in google, so I'm guessing "no."
