Celebration Beer
POSTED: 4/14/10 8:22 AM

Fellow NTPers, Brad and myself were talking last week about getting a keg of a Dc Triclub NTP 2010 homebrewn beer from Shenandoah brewery in honor of our completion of NTP. While we shot the idea out of getting three different types to represent the three different stages, one solid keg sounded sufficient. That being said, we are trying to gauge interest in who would be up for taking a trip out to the brewery, name and type of a beer, selecting it, and then letting Brad and I handle the rest of the logistics. It typically takes 5 weeks to brew so right now is perfect for figuring this out. Please let Brad Gandy or myself know if you are interested and we will coordinate something for this weekend or next.

And after draining the keg, you can convince each other to sign up for your first IronMan...

...Let folks know how to contribute, NTP or not, to help pay for this.

Max,

I joined NTP just so that I could drink more beer. Count me in! Next weekend is better for me, but can be flexible.

Cheers!

That is an extremely good idea.

I'd love to come along. I can do it pretty much anytime on the weekend of April 23-24. This weekend doesn't work.

For the record...as this will hopefully become a club tradition...Max and I concocted this scheme while drinking beer! Either weekend works for me for a visit to the brewery. Like Rachel, I can drive some people as well...or do a pick up from an Arlington/Alex metro stop.

Hmm...doesn't fit in so well with the age-group HH targeted to the under-21 crowd.

NTPers,

We have an appointment at the Shenandoah Brewery in Alexandria on Saturday 8 May, at 1:15PM to choose our beer. The folks at the brewery said we could bring up to 10 people to the appointment. So, whoever wants to join Max and myself in selecting the beer - show up!

YES. What a fantastic idea. As far as beer choices are concerned, I'd vote for their Big Meadow Pale Ale. As a homebrewer myself, I can say that the more hops and malt you put into a brew, the less of a chance that it will not be at least slightly drinkable. I don't suppose we would get a chance to suggest other ways to tweak these base recipes?

Dan,
Your expertise would be most appreciated! For myself, I'm merely a consumer, vice a creator of the most perfect expression of the four food groups (barley, malt, yeast, water). So any ideas you have or ability to translate brewspeak into English would help out a lot.

Brad,

Sure, I'd be happy to help out. Do you want me just to play to accompany the DC Tri / NTP group to the brewery in Alexandria on Saturday, May 8th? Is 1:15 pm the appointment time? Prior to arriving, do you have a name of someone at the brewing company with whom you have been talking whom I might contact beforehand?

We have our group ride at 9. I'd be down for lunch after and then heading straight to the brewery from there...but I don't want to be the only smelly one :)
