Thanksgiving is around the corner. If you are in town or from here, the Alexandria Turkey Trot 5-miler is a great way to start the holiday weekend. Don't forget to bring canned goods for the foodbank.
34th Alexandria Turkey Trot 5-Miler
DATE: Thanksgiving Day, Thursday 26 November 2009
TIME: Race starts at 10:00 am sharp!
PLACE: Cora Kelly Rec Center, corner of Commonwealth Ave and W. Reed Ave, Alexandria
Also, Arlington has a 5k and Bethesda has a Turkey Trot, too.
Registerd weeks ago for Alexandria Turkey Trot - Don't forget a food donation item for Alive! If you don't feel like lugging a T-day item - I am sure they would welcome cash. Food pantries are really hurting this year as their demand is up.
In DC there is the So Others Might Eat (SOME) 5k and Mayor Fenty will be running -- but with no motorbike entourage.
Registration deadline is Nov 20...www.some.org
Alexandria in, nice event, doing an annual death-defying ride on heavily trafficked Telegraph Road to get to the run...
More Turkey Day Races/Rides:
Conte's of Arlington is leading a Thanksgiving Day Ride at 9:00am SHARP. The ride is a "B" level ride (16+ mph) for approximately 30 miles with a few hills thrown in.
I"m torn between Alexandria Turkey Trot and Conte's...maybe we can get Conte's to change the ride to 7:00 am?

Could mount an email campaign, and perhaps call in NBC News, to have Conte's switch its ride to early morn.... :) :)
Could also start with Conte's group at 9, veer off down Mt Vernon Trail, arrive at Alex TTrot in time for 10 am start for impressive and creative brick, leading to deserved second helping of pumpkin pie at day's end.
I'm running the SOME 5k on Hains Point. See you out there!
I hear Arlington has better shirts than Alexandria.
Happy Thanksgiving everyone...
Since I am still on the IR with no running, I am going to try to do the Conte's ride on Turkey Day.
In for the Conte's ride. I'll be the one at the back of the pack, struggling to keep up with all the bike nazis.
I'll be in the back with you...will try and make it. Stupid stress fracture precludes the run, so bike it is.
That turnout of 50 riders was impressive. Fast group, many racers, in the cold and dripping fog, including veterans of the British Columbia Bike Race and an Austrian triathlon race.
It was fun but felt more like a team time trial than a relaxed B group ride!!
