Garmin FR910XT Sale @ REI + more news?

05/21/2013 at 12:54 PM - I used my 301 XT with HR, bike mph/cadence for my IM which was 13:30. The HR monitor stopped working towards the end of my run but I think it the HR monitor. I am thinking of upgrading to the 910 XT for the smaller size and swimming functions.

FS: Cobb Saddle, T2 Plus Aerobars Free: Wetsuit (Women's Med)

05/21/2013 at 11:56 AM - Stuff for sale!

Cobb Plus Saddle ($80)
Black. Gently used on road bike for one season. (I was primarily riding tri bike.) Sells new for $160.
[link]http://cobbcycling.com/cart/V-Flow_Plus_White_C1P3.cfm[/link]

Profile Design T2 Plus Aluminium Aerobars ($70)
Elbow pads were used for a few rides. The rest is brand new. In the original packaging.
[link]http://www.profile-design.com/profile-design/products/aerobars/aluminum-aerobars/t2-plus.html[/link]

Women’s Volt Sleeveless Wetsuit Medium. (Free to NTP’er or newbie.)
Worn during 3-4 races. There are a few small tears – the result of my first attempt to try it on. According to Xterra, should not impact performance. Or maybe those tears explain my swim times??

Trek Bike Advice

05/21/2013 at 9:03 AM - Fun! Two ideas:
1) Try selling it in the classifieds section of the forum. I'm sure there are some folks looking for a commuter.

2) If you do a trade, focus on a frame that fits you well and you enjoy riding (test several!), then focus on components. Don't worry about the wheels. You can always upgrade those later.

05/20/2013 at 9:46 PM - Hey, I'm an NTPer and we've been doing informal rides at Hains Point on most Tuesday evenings. I thought I reach out to the larger DC Tri community too. So join us if you can. We will be riding tomorrow (5/21). Here's the info:

Location: Tennis Court Parking Lot (corner of Buckeye and Ohio Drive)

Pace: 16-18 mph

Clip-in Time: 6PM (If you want to come late, just let me know like 30 mins before 6PM and I will be on the lookout for you when we come around the parking lot).

Shipping/flying tri bike advice

05/20/2013 at 3:05 PM - Folks on the forum last year were very helpful when I was considering doing my first non-drivable race last year https://www.dctriclub.org//forum/messages.cfm?tid=C47B831D-BE64-18C6-AD9A59FDA0E3D196 , so I will summarize what I learned:

1) Some members will rent or lend you their hard bike case for cheap.

2) If you ship or check your bike always bring your shoes, pedals, helmet with you as carryon.

3) The cheapest reliable option is to go to your local LBS and ask them for an extra cardboard bike box then ship it back and forth to yourself via UPS or FedEx. The LBS might even be willing to help you dissassemble and pack it for free depending on the shop and how well you know them.

Tri-bike transport super expensive and not universally available.

Tr-bike rental is the same deal

REI also will ship bikes for cheaper, but again not always available.

Hard cases: are expensive and only worth buying if you will fly to a bunch of races or plan on renting out your case.

Soft cases: lots of people use them without issue, but I would still be nervous about it.

So while I ultimately did not wind up racing Rocketman and did Monticelloman instead, if I ever do decide to fly to a race I will probably rent a hard case from a club member or do the cardboard bike box shipping option depending on my hotel plans and if I will be renting a car for the race.

LG Club gear sizing question

05/20/2013 at 3:01 PM - I really love my new club kit, I got the performance racer tri top in small size and I'm thinking in getting the cycling jersey but I'm not sure which size should I get. Is it similar sizing to the tri top? Should I get the same size or go higher? Does any one has both and can give any feedback?

Thanks.

cycling in savannah?

05/20/2013 at 11:53 AM - Check out the Hilton Head tri club about 45 mins away: https://www.facebook.com/onontri
also Savannah has a great 50m pool that serves many area triathletes. I think you can just pay a small drop-in fee and they have free parking: http://aquatic.chathamcounty.org/
Also if you can get out there, go for a ride to Tybee Island. I super highly recommend going here for dinner: http://www.sundaecafe.com/ Have fun!

I'm a DC Tri member (newbie triathlete). The other roommates are a runner and a pilates enthusiast. It's a pretty active house overall, in between jobs and social activities.
