How did you get involved in triathlon?
I came from a running background, but refused to run anything longer than 200 meters in high school, until I finally started doing a few 10k races after moving to DC after college. But I didn’t follow a training plan or train smart and ended up with injuries. I watched the Ironman on TV on repeat and knew eventually I would do one. One year packet pick up for Nations was in my neighborhood and I saw all the tri bikes and eventually found the race and then DC Tri’s New Triathlete Program and put it on my calendar even though it wouldn’t start for months.

What was your first triathlon?
General Smallwood in 2012. It was the NTP goal race and happened on a day that was 102+. Despite the heat I was still hooked, and my next race was an easy PR.

Any memorable races or experience?
I raced Ironman Lake Placid in 2014. We had a thunderstorm mid-swim and I still remember running towards transition and seeing a bolt of lightning and knowing I was going to get on my bike with a lot of downhills. I’ve never been more excited to run after that!

What do you enjoy outside of triathlon?
I started knitting about a year ago. I thought it would be a good stress reliever. Unfortunately with all the counting involved it’s not, but I still love making things.
