Author Talk with Glenn Stout: Young Woman & the Sea
Join us for an author talk with Glenn Stout to discuss “Young Woman & the Sea: How Trudy Ederle Conquered the English Channel and Inspired the World” (c. 2009) (353 pages). There will be plenty of Q&A time to ask Glenn about how he selected and researched this topic, the upcoming Disney film adaptation of the book, other books he’s written, etc.
Trudy Ederle is not well known today, but about a century ago she was the most famous female swimmer in America, breaking records in short, mid, and long-distance races – both in pools and in open water competitions. She competed in the 1924 Olympics and then at age 20 in 1925 became the first woman to successfully swim the English Channel. Back then, Trudy Ederle (who was nicknamed the “Queen of the Waves”) dominated her sport in achievements and fame like Nadia Comaneci, Michael Jordan, Tiger Woods, and Serena Williams did in their respective sports in their days.
The author talk is open to all and there’s no requirement to have finished reading the book. RSVP for Zoom details.
