Club race Duathlon #2 is open for registration. More info here.
I need 7 volunteers min to help me:
2 - bike turnaround near the Douglas Bridge
2 - run turnaround near the 11th St bridge
3 - Start/Finish/transition at the park pavillion, Section E
Signing up to volunteer is as easy as registering. Follow the link above and the price will drop to zero.
Patrick Serfass, pointed out that the ANACOSTIA WATERSHED SOCIETY'S 2014 EARTH DAY CLEANUP & CELEBRATION is the same day.
One location is at the boathouse right across the river on the other side and walkable from the race venue. You get a free t-shirt and there's a party from 12-2 at RFK.
FMI click here
Choose: Seafarers Yacht Club for that venue but there are many others on the map.
There's also a really neat event being held after the duathlon - the Anacostia Watershed Society's 2014 Earth Day Cleanup and Celebration. Several people plan to head on over after the du. When you register, choose the "Seafarers Yacht Club" location as it's the one close to the du venue.
Who's in?? Accuweather says it'll be in the mid-60's, nice.
Also, could REALLY use volunteers to help at the run and bike turn-arounds. It's not at Hains Point so start/finish/transition, run turn-around and bike turn-around are 3 different locations.
Please help by registering as a vol the and 'cost' will be $zero.
Any thought of maybe starting the duathlon a bit earlier so we can get over to the clean-up event?
I thought about that but when registration was set up, it looked like it'll still be freezing at 8am let alone any earlier. Weather for this Sat looks awesome now.
I think there's enough time to do the Du and make the Earth Day Clean up. I didn't check but I'm thinking they'll still take your helping hands if you show up a bit late.
With that said, if I don't have more volunteers to help out, there won't be a du. Need 3 more people min. New venue so I need to minimize people going off course/getting lost/turning around early by accident.
I can switch to a volunteer if needed. I signed up to race to force myself to do the hard effort, but fine with volunteering as well.
I signed up for Earth Day thing as well. I think worst case scenario is that I show up late for that. I can't imagine that is a big deal.
Awesome, thank Zack.
Hopefully, we'll have some volunteers sign up so you can race. Just need a few!
If you're racing Cherry Blossom Sunday, come help out. You're not going to be working out (much) anyway.
haha.....we have different concepts about what constitutes a big workout. 10K of running plus 20K of biking makes my book!
Guess I should of made it clearer that the second part was for anyone reading the post, not you Zack. ;-) my bad
I agree with you, ha!
bump, need some vols, no joke ;-)
Adam, I sent you a message.
Adam, depending on the time commitment, I could potentially volunteer. When do you think the volunteer duties would end?
David, that'd be great. We should be done NLT 10am. If you have to take off a little before that, that should be fine.
You and anyone else are welcome to join us in an easy ride at the park right after the race/awards, at about 10am. HP is going to be way too crowded as the parking lots are already closed and the tour buses are/will be clogging up the point as part of the annual CB festival.
Just click the registration button above and choose 'volunteer' in the category pull-down.
Registration for all closes tomorrow evening. I plan to send out an email to racers and volunteers tomorrow.
Confirmation list here.
PS Nick, msg rec'd. See you Sat.
All, here's the course for Sat's club race.
Everything, I think, is there.
Look and read it over and post here if you have questions.
Thanks to AJ and her mom and I think David? for stepping up to volunteer Sat. 19 reg'd racers as of now.
715-745 - Arrive, check-in/memorize bib #, munchkins, coffee, hot chocolate, set up transition, warm up, etc.
7:55 - Last minute speech and any questions addressed.
8:00 - GO!
Keep in mind the course is completely open to traffic, walkers, joggers, bikers, etc. Please exercise caution at all times.
21 participants so far.
Reminder that registration closes at 8pm tonight. Bib numbers will be assigned shortly thereafter. Email to all registered runners (and volunteers) will go out today.
See you tomorrow!
Anyone driving from NW that would be willing to carpool? I'm happy to meet early/where is convenient - a ride down would be great.
Can you still use volunteers tomorrow? I've been out of town and internet access for a while, so I'm a little late volunteering. Oops!
Hi Ian, thanks for offering!
I could def use another volunteer unless you really prefer to race. I have 6 signed up to volunteer and 22 racers with 4.5 hrs left to register.
With the course not being looped like HP we'll have to cover more ground so we're good with 6 but it'd be helpful to have another.
Plus if one of my vols can't make it, doesn't feel well, is late or has to leave early, etc. it'd be good to have backup!
If anyone can grab Rachel, that'd be super helpful as she's volunteering.
Rachel, do you plan to bring your bike? If it's just you, perhaps it's easier for someone to give you a lift.
Thanks Adam - I'd like to bring the bike, but only if it works out. If not, I'm talking to AJ to make it over there.
