Thanks for all the info guys, appreciate it. Looking forward to riding tomorrow.
jbrez is right.
Personally, I'll be at 8th and Pennsylvania (the little triangle of nothingness on the NW corner) at 7:10. We'll keep it cordial until we get to the reservoir near Sibley Hospital and then usually one group takes off at a pretty good clip (24mph+) with one or two other groups behind. It's best to talk to the others who show up to ask what they're doing so you know who's riding your speed and can stick with them. We generally rendezvous at the BP at the intersection of Falls Road and River Road before some head back and others go longer.
Anyone know if Mac Arthur paving is significantly better/finished compared to 2-3 weeks ago? If not, I'd like to head up Goldsboro from MacArthur to River and head out on that road instead of MacArthur.
Patrick, they were paving last week, so I reached out to Myron to get a current status and here's his response:
"There's more newly paved roadway past the one-lane bridge than there was last weekend, but there's still a lot of milled pavement. Moreover, on the stretch back from Persimmon Tree towards the one-lane bridge, there's a nasty sliver of a drop-off in the pavement between the new roadway and the side of the road. So, if you ride on that stretch, it's best to stay away from the edges (in fact, it's highly recommended -- a friend of mine saw a cyclist being carted away in an ambulance the other day probably due to his wheel falling into that crevice).
"So, my advice would be turning right on on Goldsboro off of MacArthur on the way out and going up to Bradley -- an excellent cycling road. It's not flat, but there's nothing too steep on it. On the way back, take Persimmon Tree to MacArthur and deal carefully with that short stretch of milled pavement that's off and on to just past the one-lane bridge. It's not too bad for too long if you know it's there."
See you at 7:30 in g'town.
Thanks for the report. That sounds like good advice. I hope we'll see you out there!
Any ride going out tomorrow morning? The 26th?
I'd like to go tomorrow. It will be cold at the start though. Thoughts on moving the start back for an 8-830 pickup in gtown?
I'm stuck at work tomorrow. It's been too long since I've been able to make it out. Last time I rode with the group I was suffering the effects of heat. Next time I'm able to make it I'll be bundled up in cold weather gear. Lame.
Any B groupers want to head out to the T this week? Weather looks like it will be nice so I think we should take advantage while we can! Bob? Mish? Tina? Weiss? Michigan State? Anyone??
Yes for the B group ride! Leaving Georgetown at 730?
Gotta capitalize on the nice weather. Thoughts on pushing back the start time? An extra 30/60 minutes really helps with darkness.
Juan and I (B team) are meeting at M and Wisc in Gtown at 8:00am
I'm in! Let's roll from G'town at 8.
Forecast looks good for Saturday! Love the fall temps...
I'm in for tomorrow, rolling from Capitol Hill. Is it set that the main group is leaving Georgetown at 8am? If so, I'll be leaving the Hill at 7:40. Anybody else riding from the Hill?
Yeah, I'm planning to ride from the hill.
And leaving the Hill at 7:40?
Is this going to be "an off season pace" ride Patrick?! I'm in for a loop around the BP.
The only off season pace I am aware of is balls to the wall. Remember, Ryan. We are riding less miles so have to make the ones we are doing count.
Ha! So true. Ryan, just bring your big boy pants and you'll be fine. =)
