acelles started the topic Best bike shops in the DMV to buy a bike? in the forum Gear Advice 4 years, 1 month ago
Hi all — I’m considering buying a new bike and know this weekend (Labor Day) and September may be a good time to look at sales.
I feel like a lot of larger bike shops closed recently in the past two years or so, and am a bit lost in general on DMV-wide bike shops (I’m DC-based). Do folks have recommendations on the best bike stores for exploring…[Read more]

Hi all! Two DITR questions for anyone who’s done the race before:
(1) On Friday, does anyone know if we are able to get into the water to do our pre-race prep at Perryville Community Park? Will they allow swimmers that afternoon? I’m thinking of getting there before packet pickup to do a quick swim and check out the course.
And (2) it doesn’t…[Read more]

acelles replied to the topic Term "LT" in the forum Olympic Distance Program (ODP) for Paid Participants 4 years, 3 months ago
Thank you both! This is very helpful.
It was actually really hard to get up to my LT during yesterday’s run. I had a hard time keeping even just 160 for much of the run, and it was a very challenging effort to build faster for the last 1.5 miles. Since that was the case, should I be re-considering my LT test results and HR zones?
I could cite a…[Read more]

Hi all — I’m almost embarrassed to ask this question so late into the training program, but I’m realizing I’m a little confused on terms.
When a workout asks us to be at “LT,” is that number mean to be our average HR from the 20-min test portion, i.e. the number we put into the Joe Friel calculator? Or is it the top edge of Z4 (where z4 is…[Read more]

acelles replied to the topic Recommendations for biking near Luray (how's the Luray tri course route?) in the forum Bike 4 years, 4 months ago
Thank you! I can report that even in the afternoon, traffic was light and fairly ok, and it was a gorgeous ride. Also: I only remembered your warnings until I was face-to-face with those climbs. Whew!

Hi all — I’ll be camping near Luray this weekend, and I’m looking for a place to do an 1.5 hr ride (nothing too crazy, it’s my recovery week).
Is the Luray sprint tri course a good ride, from Lake Arrowhead? Wondering how busy the roads are. Thank you! (Map/cue sheet: https://luraytriathlon.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/07/2015-luray-sprint-triathl…[Read more]

acelles started the topic Running form 1:1 (halp, I'm heel striking!) in the forum Olympic Distance Program (ODP) for Paid Participants 4 years, 4 months ago
Hi all — after doing PeasantMan this weekend, my IT band is screaming at me, and I’m realizing that all of my prior PT and running form work hasn’t gotten me out of the heel-striking woods just yet. Is there a running form coach or 1:1 clinic where I can get more individualized help with my running form?
I’ve found many of the running clinics…[Read more]

acelles replied to the topic Peasantman Finalized Schedule in the forum Olympic Distance Program (ODP) for Paid Participants 4 years, 5 months ago
Thanks, Coach AJ! A question for Peasantman weekend: how hard should we be training on Saturday, and how hard should we race on Sunday?
Our TP plan has a heavy 2hr ride on Saturday, May 4 + a 30 min brick. If we do the group ride on Saturday, should we do the TP workout? Should we “race” at a lower intensity for Sunday’s race so that we don’t…[Read more]

I’m back with another question on this topic. I’m totally wiped today from the run test yesterday — is anyone else fatigued, or is this a sign I royally messed something up during my recovery/test week?
I can’t imagine doing a swim test today, so I’m going to test on Wednesday instead, and either skip today’s swim or do Wednesday’s planned…[Read more]

I had a slightly similar question (or rather, I’m looking for an excuse as to why I may have not performed as strongly on my bike test on Tuesday!) I stupidly didn’t notice that there was a bike test on Tuesday, and did a hefty squat/lunges set on Monday for strength conditioning. My legs definitely weren’t as fresh as other times I’ve tested (for…[Read more]

acelles started the topic Suunto//Movescount issues uploading data to TP? in the forum Olympic Distance Program (ODP) for Paid Participants 4 years, 6 months ago
Hi all — I’m in the midst of working with the Suunto support team on issues with my Ambit 2s and movescount (Suunto’s platform). My swim data records properly on my watch and on movescount, but then uploads wonky to TP with yardage and times significantly off. Training Peaks support looked into it, and told me it’s the data on…[Read more]

Harvard Hill — Harvard Street NW going down to the Zoo in Mt. Pleasant — is a good one. Circling the outside of Meridian Hill/Malcom X on the sidewalks also works if it’s not too busy out. Would love to hear other suggestions!

Hi! Wondering if I should do the full week 9 mid-week workout tonight (Tues night) before Thursday night’s threshold test — or is that cutting it too close re: keeping my legs fresh and happy? Thank you!!
