The Diamond in the Rough/Elk Neck Training Weekend post (https://www.dctriclub.org/training/camping-training-weekends/) on the DC Tri website says: “A full schedule will be shared with all participants 2 or 3 weeks prior to the weekend. Arrival is any time after 3pm on Friday. Saturday will include a group ride, run and afternoon open water swim opportunity. Sunday workouts include a ride or run based on training plans.”

Has a more detailed schedule been set? The reason I ask is that I may be driving back and forth each day and would like to plan.

What is going on on Friday — just arrival?

What time is the first event on Saturday, and what is it (a ride)?

Will we be able to practice the actual Diamond in the Rough tri rides — Olympic and Sprint?

What time are we likely to finish on Sunday?

Thanks very much for any information!

Yes, this is a terrific opportunity! Seeing the course ahead of time has always been a big help, and now I have it scheduled rather than scrambling around to fit it at the last minute. Nice going DC Tri!

Who can resist a race called “Escape from Saigon”? I just signed up for it and hope to see you all there. It is a great opportunity for you to be 100% sure you will not be the last one out of the water.

For planning purposes, you should know that I am making the same offer for the sprint triathlon on Sunday at Peasantman, that is, if you sign up to race, I promise you will not be the last one over the finish line.

I can say this with even more certainty than usual because I have not yet begun to work out this triathlon season. Once recovered from a bike accident in the fall, I was all ready to go with AJ’s plan! And yet after just four days of working out, I came down with bronchitis that has lasted two weeks. So yep I missed both clinics. But I will not let that stand in the way of a good season in which I can help others feel better about themselves and their athletic abilities.

Yes, as one repeating the Olympic distance program can attest, the clinic days are AWESOME. For me, the swim stroke analysis was particularly helpful.

One “lesson learned” is that, for clinics on the pool balcony, it’s  warm and humid there, so you might want to wear light clothing for those.

I used a very low-tech approach involving the second hand on my watch. I tried to take 45 steps (with each foot) in 30 seconds and once I did that, I tried for 90 steps in 60 seconds. Once I could do it, I’d check to be sure I was running 30 steps every 20 seconds and speed up if necessary.  I stopped listening to music as I ran, because counting steps took most of my available concentration and attention. Wish I could say I came up with a more impressive method!

Thanks for the Kick-off meeting AJ and assistants to AJ! Very helpful to go over all of that information. The chart showing that 90-100 steps per minute is the most efficient was interesting and also what I experienced when I put it into practice last year — I could feel how much faster and easier it is to run at that rate of turnover. I recommend it to anyone who has yet to try it.

Thanks so much for this notice and the code for the discount! Today, April 1, you can still register for $160. Prices (for the Olympic distance) go up to $170 tomorrow, April 2.

Has the DC Tri hotel been decided on?
