I’ll be there with my biking buddy at 7:30am tomorrow. Planning to head to the BP, see how I feel, and maybe to the T.

I would put the blame on the Lodging Association. VTS-MTS might have a say, but they don’t control when the Lodging Association changes its mind. Greg could have been a little nicer in his response though.
I would look into the feasibility of filing a class action against the Association and the Bay Shore Campground from a lawyer in your r…[Read more]

Hey Steven:
We’re about the same size. You can borrow mine, Xterra Vortex. It’s not in perfect shape (4 years old), but still works and I just raced in it two weeks ago. Private message me and you can come pick up late tonight, or anytime Friday.

Please take a look at the link for watch recommendations. DC Rainmaker probably is the most definitive website for gear advice.

David Eng replied to the topic Sunset OWS – Water Temperature in the forum New Triathlete Program (NTP) for Paid Participants 6 years, 11 months ago
Hey Balaji: Not sure there’s a hard and fast rule. I would say 62 degrees and below is unsafe for swimmers who are not used to swimming in cold water, even with a wetsuit on. I would wait until at least 64-65 degrees to swim, and that’s why we plan on postponing the Sunset OWS to later in the month in the upcoming newsletter. I love cold w…[Read more]

You can swim on your own, at your own risk, at Lake Anna, as well as at other locations:
Sandy Point State Park
Mason Neck State Park
North Point State Park
Matapeake Clubhouse and Beach
If you want to have swim support and kayak safety, you can look into these two companies that offer fee-based clinics, or supported open water swim…[Read more]

Hey, I’m not doing the OWS, but I was thinking out heading out there to swim on my own. I can drive you if no one else replies. BTW, the water there is 64 degrees, which is really cold and you will definitely need a wetsuit. By comparison, Lake Anna last weekend was 74 degrees.

Correction: Jamestown water temp is 68.7 degrees now. It will probably be warm enough to swim without a wetsuit.

Okay, here we go:
Pre-swim warmup – Some people do a warmup in the water, some don’t. Really up to you. I do some dynamic warmups – arm and shoulder circles, high knee kicks, jumping jacks, etc, to bring my heart rate up. I also like jumping into the water to get acclimated to the water temperature.
Wetsuits – You are not required to we…[Read more] -

Sleepy is normal and there’s probably a scientific answer, but I think your body is just exhausted after working out for 2+ hours and getting up early to set up transition and wait for the race to start. But taking in electrolytes doesn’t hurt. I do not recommend driving home on your own right after Jamestown. Either take a 1 hour nap or sleep o…[Read more]

Stephen Pribut. He’s the best. He’s a runner, honest, and won’t make you do unnecessary test/scans, and he won’t default to prescribing orthotics like other podiatrist who just wants to make a quick $500 off you.

Maybe gloves. For the pull over, just be aware that it will warm up later in the day, and you may get a bit warm after the first 15 mins on the bike and you will need to decide whether to toss it, stop and tie it around your waist, or keep it on.

As to gear, you missed the boat for the new design for the tri kit. You can order the clearance design here, if they still have your size left. https://www.dctriclub.org/shop-category/gear/. It’s really an amazing deal and I ordered a jacket from there just now that I’ve been eyeing for a long long time.
The only difference I think is that t…[Read more]
