Good for you for finding a creative way to enjoy the hard work you have put into your training. Many athletes are doing something similar. And while it’s not quite the same as a race, there is still lots to be learned, experienced and enjoyed!
While I am sure there are more options out there, here is a list of areas where I believe you can do a…[Read more]

Oh no! I am so sorry to hear about your bike crash Kirsten! This is definitely the scary part of triathlon. The roads definitely are feeling a little more dangerous these days. Good luck with your recovery. Keep up with the PT so that you can race again when they do start back up.
And for Jason, you continue to be the energizer bunny! We c…[Read more]

Hi Bret,
Nice work planning ahead! I was hoping others would share their experiences however I did want to make sure you get your questions answered.
Traveling with a bike is not always that straight forward. I did it one season (2010) for 4 races and decided that I would pick races that I could drive to after that season. Those races took me…[Read more]

Greeting ODPers,
We are all aware now that Rev3 Williamsburg has been cancelled/postponed. Not sure what the specifics are but I want to acknowledge the news. I know many of you have continued to engage and have really elevated your training this season. And I know some of you still have practice/virtual Oly races scheduled. So while our go…[Read more]

Awesome feedback Nick! Finishing up over 650 running miles in 2.5 months, I can attest to the success (or demise) of not staying consistent with strength training. So here’s is your motivation to keep it up! That said, remember that it’s HOW you do the exercises that matter than what you do. Engage your core first, then engage your gluts, th…[Read more]

Amazing feedback! Silver lining just might be reigniting our love for the sport (and appreciation for those areas that we might have taken advantage of like the pool and our training squad)! This is likely why we are all part of a group like the DC Tri Club in the first place (versus going it on your own). As Megan shared, we will get back t…[Read more]

Since this post stimulated some good conversation on the IMP forum, I asked for permission to share it in hopes that it could stimulate a similar conversation here. We are at a great point in the season where the timing is ideal.

Fantastic feedback! Another great whole food, savory option to provide longer lasting energy than constant simple sugars. Vanessa is cutting it up into small pieces so that she is taking small bites (hopefully on frequent intervals) to minimize GI disturbance.
And good hydration choices as they all offer endurance levels of calories and e…[Read more]

Now is the season to resolve many of these underlying or nagging issues. They take time and no one wants to dial back volume or speed to address them. The world is your oyster right now!

One more thought, I would like to add to this list…getting athletes injury free for the first time in years. This season has also allowed some athletes to take the time to finally resolve injury once and for all. Resolving injury often requires an athlete to dial back volume and speed, do extensive drilling and spend daily time on focused s…[Read more]

Thanks Mark for the update! Yes, you must decide for yourself if you want to race (if the race moves forward) and your risk profile. Most triathletes I have talked to feel similar to you so you are not alone!
That said, were you able to take on a virtual or tune-up race to put all of your hard work to practice?
Finally, if you want to change y…[Read more]

Now we are talking! To be successful at the Ironman distance, we must be ‘trainers.’ If you don’t love training and remain committed to it, this distance will be very challenging. And we know that years of cumulative training is key to this successfully conquering this distance. Nice work making the most of this season, Megan!
So let’s div…[Read more]

Since many of the participants on the HIP Training Program are undertaking virtual or practice HIM’s right now, we are talking about what went well, what didn’t go as planned and where there is still opportunity.
