Thanks so much, Coach AJ! And thanks for all the training help the past few months! That was a heck of a ride! Congrats to all the other racers, I hope everyone was able to hit their goals!
Got my fair share of jelly stings during the swim. Bike felt like no matter which way I turned I was always in a headwind. And the sun came out just in t…[Read more]

Hey everyone! Two questions:
- the water temperature in Cambridge is looking pretty warm and looks like will be warm days between now and race. How should we think about wetsuit vs. non-wetsuit race? With rolling self seeded swim start, if water is over 76.1 degrees is there a separate wet suit swim wave? What do the coaches recommend if wat…

Thanks for this! I am a bit confused by the whole tapering process. Prior to using a structured workout program like training peaks, I would only do Zone 1 or 2 workouts during the taper and dramatically ramp down volume. Training peaks still has me doing 12:30 hours this week (with some Zone 3 intervals on the bike) and just over 10:00 ho…[Read more]

Will chime in with my own experience. Ramp up to 16-17 hours/week of training has been pretty tough to stay on top of – particularly with work travel and long weekends (the irony is I find it harder to get away to train on long weekends because of the demands of wife, son, and two dogs). Tough to find a bike to go on a 5:00 hour ride when in a…[Read more]

Quick bike questions for the coaches. When doing FTP/lactate threshold tests, drills, and spinning workouts should we be in aero position 100% of the time or is it OK to be on the bullhorns part of the time? I find riding in aero position on the trainer to be particularly unpleasant although have no problem riding on aero bars for long rides ou…[Read more]

Hey all! I hope training is going well despite all the rain. I recently had a bike fit with bikefitbysmiley and want to encourage anyone who has doubts about if they are in the optimal fit position to do the same. I was struggling to keep high cadence (90+) in aero position during long rides and generate sufficient power in one legged drills so…[Read more]

Hi everyone! I know I am entering into some dangerous territory here, but does anyone have recommendations for a power meter? I was pretty keen on the Garmin Vector 3 last year (I like how you can move between bikes easily) but then got discouraged by their production issues. Although I hear that these have now mostly been resolved. Would gre…[Read more]

Hi everyone! I just joined the training program and wanted to say hello. I have signed up for IM Maryland – it will be my first full distance race. I have done Eagle Man before so I figured why not just do it twice in the same day (at least it won’t be as hot)? I look forward to reading about everyone’s training efforts and hopefully get…[Read more]
