Please join us for a facilitated book discussion of “Heroes, Villains & Velodromes: Chris Hoy and Britain’s Tracy Cycling Revolution” by Richard Moore (2008)(310 pages), https://www.amazon.com/Heroes-Villains-Velodromes-Britains-Revolution/dp/000726531X/.  Members Lauren S. Fassler and Jason Davidson will lead the discussion on TUESDAY, March 26, 2024.  For the book club meetings preceding the summer 2024 Olympics, we’ll be focusing on Olympics-related books.

While many Americans are familiar with road cycling races, far fewer know much about track cycling.  The same was true in the United Kingdom until summer 2008.  That’s when British track cyclist Chris Hoy (now age 47 and retired from professional cycling) won 3 gold medals in the 2008 Olympics to become the then most successful Olympic cyclist of all time.

In Heroes, Villains & Velodromes, author Richard Moore—who is a retired elite cyclist and a British investigative journalist—delivers a fly-on-the-wall story of Chris Hoy’s breakout training season that contributed to his monumental athletic achievement in Beijing in the 2008 Olympics.  Although Chris is the story’s focus, the author expands the story to include other key members of the successful British cycling team.  The author also includes important support staff (e.g., coaches, psychiatrists, doctors) and other significant behind-the-scenes people.
