Jason Sreedhar replied to the topic TrainingPeaks question in the forum Ironman Program (IMP) for Paid Participants 5 years ago
I’ve been using TP for ~1 year now and love it. Helps me to plan out all my sessions ahead of time, know how well/poorly i’m doing that week, move things around, etc etc. From a metrics point of view, I use TSB on a daily basis to figure out where I’m at, how close I am to injury/sickness, and how to move forward. A good article by Joe Friel on…[Read more]

I’d also just map it out on TP beforehand to make sure you’re not going into overkill. Plug in approximate times and intensity factors to see where your TSB comes out. Personally, I find that I start to really break down once I hit around -40. So make sure you won’t end up too far in the red before you go out and hammer a sprint (or 3).

I guess this dives a little more into programming, but I think it kind of depends where it falls in your cycles.
If you’re in the middle of a build, you could almost treat a sprint race as your speed work for the week and get your other long work outs (at least run and swim) during the middle of the week. Alternatively, maybe look for a way…[Read more]

Jason Sreedhar replied to the topic Power meter? in the forum Ironman Program (IMP) for Paid Participants 5 years ago
Agree with Ryan re the utility of power for understanding my overall power endurance (during long rides), my overall fatigue (comparing power to HR), using the 3 second average, etc etc. But I also love data, so I guess it also depends on who you are and how you work.
Got a free Powertap P1S with my bike and have been using that. The only real…[Read more]

Regarding further clinics: definitely let us (the MSP team) know if you are interested in making another round of this! Reach out either on facebook, text, insta, or at practice! FYI these videos are good for swim analysis as well as social media posting 🙂

Hi team,
Have tried a couple of different things, so I’ll consider myself the expert on what NOT to do!
For a couple of years, I tried balancing crossfit with long-course training. Aside from being a little bro-ey, I’d consider this similar to basically any other HIIT class while HIM/IM training. Loved the group aspect and the heavy lifting…[Read more]

Jason Sreedhar replied to the topic NUTRITION!!!!! in the forum Half Ironman Program (HIP) for Paid Participants 5 years ago
Also vegetarian!! For non-training nutrition, I generally try and go by Michael Pollan’s rule from In Defense of Food (Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants.), but throw in the caveat of eating only natural stuff (“If you don’t know what plant it came from, you can’t eat it”).
Regarding “veggie meats”: I’ve tried to stay away from them recently–…[Read more]

An ongoing list of things I’ve tried. Hopefully this doesn’t make people think I’m too Type A:
- Rx Bars:
- Pro: taste, calorie density
- Con: need lots of cutting, chewing, and water
- Rating: 2/5 stars, wouldn’t recommend unless you’re doing easy efforts and/or stopping to eat
- Clif bars (choc chip):
- Pros: actually delicious, calorie…

Jason Sreedhar replied to the topic Suunto//Movescount issues uploading data to TP? in the forum Olympic Distance Program (ODP) for Paid Participants 5 years, 1 month ago
I have an ambit 3 and haven’t had any issues. The only two things I can think of:
- Are you able to upload (accurately) to strava? Might help identify where the issue is
- If you export the file from movescount (think the format is .fit?) and then upload to TP, does that work? Not a long-term solution but could work until its sorted.

Jim,
Had the same experience when I started working on my running form a couple years ago. My hr was going almost 20bpm higher, yet I was running 1 min per mile slower than before. Give it time– takes the neurologic system some time to adapt to new movement patterns. I also had a lot of calf tightness, but that went a way (mostly) through time…[Read more]

TT bars: Getting the seat far enough forward is an issue, so you may need to get a new seat post. I got one from redshift a while back (ebay) and that’s helped, but definitely consult a fitter before doing anything.
Trainer: I have a fluid trainer (kinetic by kurt) and find it to be more than sufficient. I cant get the true Zwift experience, but…[Read more]

I’ll provide some contrast. I have been using a Suunto (think it’s the Ambit 3 Sport?) for a couple of years now. Bought it based on a recommendation from dcrainmaker, as well as the fact that it was $150 cheaper than the garmin 735 at the time. Its been pretty great, does everything I want it to. Only real drawback is that it doubles the readings…[Read more]

I’ve had a Powertap P1S for about 18 months now. I’d say its definitely nice and useful data to have, not at all essential. Even riding indoors, you could easily go by speed based off a rear-wheel computer. That being said, I have found it super useful in race settings, on hill repeats, and riding into wind. Yes, you could use RPE. I guess power…[Read more]
