Sorry, in step 2, that should have been in “Export Data,” go to “Workout Summary”

FYI, I just discovered another way export the training program for use on a rescheduled event. I’m doing this on a Mac:
- From the Training Peaks app home page, go to your account (left-hand side of the screen, where your name is).
- In “Workout Summary,” click on “Export data”
- Choose the dates and download. It will be in CSV format.
- Open…

MARK WIGFIELD replied to the topic Virtual Race? in the forum Half Ironman Program (HIP) for Paid Participants 3 years, 2 months ago
As to whether I did a virtual race, unfortunately no, because a couple of weeks after I made the half-marathon length in the training program, I reawakened an old injury doing speed work. Thus my plan to focus on running form, and I appreciate the tip about NOT enrolling in a half-marathon training program while I do that — at least not yet. I h…[Read more]

Yes, I was gung-ho for the extended training peaks subscription.
But Covid 19 has been an evolving reality, and I decided to defer until 2020, given the vagaries of racing at a very crowded course in September, and the uncertainties of traveling to an out-of-state venue. And I am 66 years old – high risk group.
So where does that leave me with…[Read more]

Great! Since many in this program are affected by the postponement of Eagleman, what is the status of the club’s discussions with Training Peaks to extend our six-month subscriptions?

I bought a Garmin Fenix 5 in November of 2018, and it’s just about perfect, in my mind. Every flaw in my old old Garmin (a 910 XT, if I recall) was addressed in this watch. Plus, you can use it as a wear-all-the-time watch, and get previews of text messages that come to your phone, etc. I also have had Apple watches, and while they are more…[Read more]

While I am continuing to train for Eagleman as if it will happen, I will not be surprised if it’s postponed. I would like the club to negotiate with Training Peaks for extension of the six-month enrollment period for paid participants whose races were postponed due to covid 19. It seems reasonable for Training Peaks to offer that courtesy to the c…[Read more]

Today’s workout (2-hour race-specific long run) was the first time I reached the half-ironman running distance — actually exceeded it at 14.7 miles, including warm-up and cool-down. Nice to know I can do it — though the proof of that will be how I feel tomorrow.

MARK WIGFIELD replied to the topic Training Plan Alternatives in the forum Half Ironman Program (HIP) for Paid Participants 3 years, 5 months ago
Closure of both pool and gym has been a double-whammy. I do have a tubing set, and have incorporated tubing into my body-weight workout, including swim-specific drills called a tubing row for shoulders and back, tubing stroke for biceps, and diagonal wood chop for core. That’s in addition to planks, squats, pushups, and lunges. For me, the gym…[Read more]

I plan to actually practice yoga, especially since the once-a-week class I go to is cancelled. And also do more body weight/elastic band strength training. And will check out some dry-land swim drills.
However, today, I started doing yard work and never made it down to the exercise mat. Takes an extra measure of discipline to get there..

MARK WIGFIELD replied to the topic Clinic Day – March 15 CANCELLED in the forum Half Ironman Program (HIP) for Paid Participants 3 years, 6 months ago
Thanks for wrestling with this — seems like the right decision, however unfortunate it is.
One thing I had been looking forward to was the running clinic to get feedback on my higher cadence-altered form. The good news is I have been running injury-free, even as my mileage has increased. But the high cadence still feels (and likely looks)…[Read more]

Thanks to everyone who made the clinics possible yesterday. I definitely gained some valuable takeaways. Totally worth the investment in time, and I look forward to next week’s clinic. FWIW, I’m going to substitute yesterday’s swim session as my swim workout for today, and do the Sunday long run I missed instead 🙂

Thought I would pass a long a resource I’ve used for strength training for the past few years, called “Strength Training for Triathletes.” It is a very thorough, organized, and indexed guide that categorizes exercises by discipline and muscle group, including over a dozen core exercises. Every exercise is illustrated and explained in full. It was…[Read more]

I would appreciate a clarification of these instructions for tomorrow’s Recovery Run workout, which says:
“Finish with 4 x 10 second strides, walk back recovery.”
I would interpret this as walking for 10-second intervals four times during recovery, but does “stride” imply a long-strided walk? I looked in the Athlete’s Guide and Galloway’s blog…[Read more]
