Capitol Crescent (Georgetown to Bethesda along the C&O Csnal) is a great one–the path is wide and smooth. If you head Maryland side, there’s a good 13.1 mile one-way trail in Charles County that is almost always empty and it’s pretty flat and scenic. It’s the Indian Head Rail Trail. Another good Maryland trail is the Baltimore Annapolis trail–on weekends it can get crowded, but it also hooks up with the BWI loop around the airport. There’s a trail along the Anacostia River that’s new–I’ve never ridden out it, but I’ve heard it’s pretty decent
I also STRONGLY advise that you NOT ride on the Mount Vernon trail that runs along the GW Parkway. It’s twisty, narrow, and crowded, especially on nice weather days. The pavement is also not in the best condition. It’s a good trail for running, but I’ve never been comfortable biking on it.
Hope this helps!
I’m arriving in Omaha Thursday night, so I’ll come to dinner Friday night too.

The merchant discount at the bike shops–do they go towards bike fits too? I already own an endurance bike, and need to finally get the full bike fit done.
At the Swim Clinic for NTP at CUA, the Intermediate one, will we be taught drills to help with strength and speed? I usually swim about 50 minutes (Have been since about July/August) and do between 1700-2200 yards each time, but I’ve stalled out on getting any faster. I’m already signed up for the intermediate clinic on 2/23.
So I live in PG County, but I do a lot of biking on the Capital Crescent trail. There’s a nice parking area at Fletcher’s Boathouse, and then it’s 2 miles down to the Georgetown waterfront, where I then turn around and head the (little less than) 8 miles up to downtown Bethesda. The trail is wide, unlike the Mount Vernon trail, and people are generally very good about listening to the “On your left!”
Is anyone using Garmin? We could create a Garmin community for NTPers.
Is there anyone who trains in southern PG (Bowie/Largo down towards Joint Base Andrews?)
Spokes, Etc in Alexandria, VA does fit sessions that are really beneficial; you need to set up an appointment, though.
