And the ones for July 4th weekend. We’ll give everyone a couple of weeks to do or you can do them all this weekend!

Tour de DC Tri Stage 12: Up to Waredaca and Elder Pine

Another long weekend–this calls for another long ride! This is another great route from Eric Pilsk from Potomac Peddlars that will show you how to get from Rock Creek all the way into northern Montgomery County and Howard County. This one is a little longer and hillier. This time we’ll cross over into Howard County to ride the western edge of the Columbia Tri course before heading back into Montgomery County to pass by both Waredaca and Elder Pine Brewery. They are both close by, about a mile apart, so if you’d like to make an optional stop, you can pick which one you’d like to stop at.

Here’s the route:

If you’d like to shorten the route, you could start from a number of schools and parks along the way. You could try parking at:
– Olney Swim Center / Olney Manor Recreational Park for ~33 mile loop
– Winding Creek Local Park or Viers Mill Local Park where Beach Dr intersects Garrett Park at the “T” for ~46 mile loop
– French International School by Beach Dr + Woodbine for ~62 mile loop

Make sure you have enough nutrition as there very few gas stations or convenience stores on the route particularly once you get pass Olney/Sandy Spring.

Best place to stop:
– Passion Bakery or Valero in Sandy Spring

Some other places:
– Olney on the way back. You’ll have to make a little detour to go into Olney.
– Aspen Hill Road where there’s a Shell and Giant.
– Mormon Temple. You’ll have to go up Stoneybrook and then there is a BP.

Watch out for:
– crossing on Viers Mill. Please use the bike/pedestian crosswalk
– traffic on Olney Sandy Spring/MD 108. A little trafficky for under a mile.

Some rules:
– You can ride the route anytime
– Please ride solo or in a pair with good social distance

Happy Riding!

Tour de DC Tri Stage 13: Up to Waredaca and Elder Pine

There’s some good riding in PG County! For anyone that would would prefer something shorter, here’s a shorter and perhaps a more July 4th themed route to Fort Washington from club member Juene. This one does involve a little bit of trail crossing the Wilson Bridge and going up/down Oxon Hill but after that it is all road. If you like, you can stop in Fort Washington to wander around the fort or by National Harbor on the way back to replenish those lost calories.

If you’d like to extend, you could start from DC and combine with the Anacostia loop to make it ~40 miles:

Parking:
– There is lots of parking around Jones Point. Alternatively you can park at Oxon Cove Park or National Harbor.

Some rules:
– You can ride the route anytime
– Please ride solo or in a pair with good social distance

Happy Riding!
