Brady Nelson – Kelly Lefler – always supportive, and something positive to say when she’s cheering. As an athlete she’s putting in the work and helping others put in the work everyday.

Member – Courtney Benedict – it was such a gift to share the course in Kona with this woman. And to share our energy with each other as we saw one another on the Queen K. She’s been a long time member of the club, an outstanding athlete, and an even more amazing person.

Most Improved – Angela Norcross: There’s no ego with Angela, just quiet confidence and realistic goals. She puts in the work and come race day executes as planned. It’s so fun watching her grow and improve as an athlete.

Most Improved – Sam Cretcher – I met Sam when he was just starting with his coach. He’s grown leaps and bounds since then and it’s so fun seeing him improve (on Strava from 1/2 way around the world).

Veteran – Matt Sarge – He never ceases to amaze me.

Veteran – Heather Prochnow – she’e everything you’d want in a teammate, friend, athlete, etc. She stopped her own race at IM Ireland to save my race (and my blown sidewall). “What you are speaks so loudly, that what you say need not be heard.”

• Brady Nelson Memorial* Spirit of DC Tri (cheers everyone on, wears DCTri, etc.; essentially the DCTriClub mascot) – Joyce Jones
• Club Member of the Year – Margaret Moral – she’s just always smiling 🙂
• Most Improved – Angela Norcross – steady and consistent. From a 15+ hour IM 2 years ago to a sub-14 this year for her second. David Payne – I’m just amazing at the leaps and bounds of improvement everytime this guy races.
• Veteran Athlete of the Year – Sarah Karpinski – Sarah and I did our first IM together in 2012 and since then I’ve watched her improve and chase her dream to the Big Island and absolutely never ever give up. She has been so close for a few years now and I’m so happy that she gets to experience Kona this year. Justin Bauer- He’s really put the work in over the years and has excelled at distances from sprint to Ironman. He had some great short course races this year and earned himself a spot to ITU Worlds in 2019.

Brady Nelson Memorial* Spirit of DC Tri – Joyce Jones – she has been one of the most supportive members of this club in all that she does while keeping a beautiful smile on her face.

Most Improved Female: Jan Bauer – Jan put her head down and dug in this year to tackle her first Ironman. She is one of the most diligent and determined athletes I have ever met. There were long days, hard days, hot days, set backs and PRs along the way and Jan did a wonderful job of soaking in the entire experience and learning the entire time. Jan had PRs at most of her races this year including half IM and IM distance races. And she surprised even herself with her swim time at IM Santa Rosa – consistent steady progress pays off and Jan is a great example of that.

Male: Pat Ramos – Pat had some great results and got himself a slot to race at 70.3 Worlds in Chattanooga. It’s great to see him get rewarded for his consistent effort.

Veteran Athlete of the Year Female: Cindy Hutchings – Cindy is truly a role model. She had great performances this year at AG Nationals and AG Worlds. Cindy is consistently making steady progress and earning solid results that often get overlooked.
Male: Justin Bauer – Justin worked his tail off this year. His resume reflects that with PRs in pretty much every distance raced (Half marathon, Half Ironman, Ironman X2, Oly Tri) and multiple podiums throughout the season. Even through some minor setbacks in his IM build he kept his head up and still had a top 20 performance in the toughest AG at the race. He came back to improve upon that performance at Ironman #2 and crack the top 10 with an 8th place finish. I don’t think it’s long before we see him taking a step on the Ironman podium and battling for a Kona slot.
