Happy Friday!  Just a reminder that we have moved the start time for the remainder of the summer to 7:30.  This isn’t a ride with a set leader, instead informally organized by those attending each week.  Please keep a few ground rules in mind:

When: Saturday mornings, clip in and depart from Capitol Hill at 7:10am, rolling pick up in Georgetown at 7:30am (summer hours)

Where: Ride departs from 8th and Penn SE at 7:10am and rolls through Georgetown for a pick-up at Wisconsin and M NW at 7:30am. We roll through quickly so be ready to jump on at 7:30am sharp.

Pace: All paces welcomed. However , this is *not* a no-drop ride. Use this thread to post your preferred pace and distance to confirm that there will be other riders going at your pace.

Distance: Anywhere from ~30-40 miles roundtrip to the gas station at the intersection of Falls Rd and River Rd, to 100+ miles. Post your ride goals to this thread to see what people are planning.

Routes: These are the typical routes we follow with occasional variations to mix it up. Variations are generally decided on the ride. All rides include a rolling pick up in Georgetown at Wisconsin and M NW.

Our RideWithGPS library with the Saturday ride route options including cue sheets: Saturday Club Ride Routes & Cue Sheets

Group Ride: Some paceline work, some hills, some re-group breaks.

Required: Helmet, flat repair kit and a basic knowledge of the ride route in the event of separation.

General Rules: No riding in aerobars in the pack unless you are pulling in front or slightly off the back. Call out pot holes, obstructions, cars, everything. No matter how obvious you think it is. Don’t roll through a stop light and lead the group into a dangerous scenario – Slow up, regroup, and don’t encourage people to blindly follow you into oncoming traffic. If you’re new to the ride, don’t be intimidated to ask questions. We may not always appear very chipper early on a Saturday morning but we all want a safe, fun ride and are happy to answer questions. For a comprehensive list of ride rules, check out our Rules of Cycling Etiquette.

Weather Policy: Check latest post for determining factors. Check weather.com “hourly forecast” for 8am Sat in zip 20003 (use the “feels like” temp).

IF you drop the ride on purpose PLEASE tell someone (preferably the ride leaders) so we don’t go looking for you. Not only is it nice but it is REQUIRED. It is a group ride and we do our best to monitor how many riders we have – we don’t leave people behind and we hold up at top of climbs to re-group.

I’m so glad you like the swag! That was a lot of fun to set up and lots of thanks to Mallory, our Director of Gear, for making it all happen and really stepping into those shoes quickly after joining us mid-year!

We hope to do more fun virtual events this winter, though the swag will probably not be as elaborate as the virtual triathlon. Stay tuned as we get our ideas together and start implementing them!

If we have a size larger, I’m happy to just swap it out for you.

Thank you everyone for the self nominations!

The nomination period is now closed. Voting will begin Monday November 9th. All active members will receive an email to the address we have on file to cast their vote. If you have previously opted out of receiving emails from our voting tool, there is nothing we can do to un-“opt out” you as that would defeat the purpose of being able to opt out of something. We will post here once the ballot goes out and how you can contact us if you did not receive one.

The new board members will be announced in December.

Official time change moving the club weekly Saturday ride to WINTER HOURS (sunrise is ~ 7:30AM now so the summer hours are getting iffy)!

    • 8:10 at Capitol Hill
    • 8:30 at Georgetown PNC

I cannot make this weekend, but going to do my best to ride the Saturday ride on Nov 7th! Not sure if folks are still riding, but I will try to be there on the 7th with my mask on and ready to ride!

    Greetings all!

As mentioned in the latest COVID-19 update, we are going to begin supporting/organizing the Saturday Club ride again starting this coming weekend (Saturday August 1st). We will require that every rider have a mask/gaiter and use them during times of stoppage or if caught up on a group of riders. We encourage groups of no more than 5 riders to ride together and to use your mask as much as possible when around others. We are not going to be policing everyone because we are all adults here, but we want you to be smart about this: the pandemic is not behind us, but we can be smart and safe about how we gather. If you do not feel safe gathering for a group ride, we totally understand and encourage you to still get out there and ride your bike and train with your quaran-family.

Please refer to the first page for details on times, locations, routes, distances, paces, drops, etc. Quick reference though:

    • When: Saturday mornings, clip in and depart from Capitol Hill at 7:10am (summer hours) / 8:10am (winter hours), rolling pick up in Georgetown at 7:30am (summer hours) / 8:30am (winter hours).
    • Where: Ride departs from 8th and Penn SE at 7:10am/8:10am and rolls through Georgetown for a pick-up at Wisconsin and M NW at 7:30am/8:30am. We roll through quickly so be ready to jump on at 7:30am/8:30am sharp.

Obviously, we are on summer hours (not sure how anyone could mistake this weather for winter… 😛 ), so I will see you all at 7:30AM at the PNC Bank at Wisconsin & M NW on Saturday!

We know the weather is finally getting nice and today was definitely an example of just how amazingly gorgeous this area’s weather can be, but as long as the DMV area is under “stay at home” orders with physical distancing orders in place, the Club will not sanction or organize the weekly Saturday rides.

We still support everyone riding on your own or with those who you are self-isolating/quarantining with and not in larger groups. It sucks, we know. But until we stop the spread of this virus and get proper safety protocols in place (i.e. regular testing capacity), we will follow the guidelines of our regional governments.

David, our Director of Communications (the guy who sends you the awesome weekly newsletter), has been doing an incredible job of weekly Strava challenges for everyone to get out there and do some rides from a distance while challenging each other. We encourage you to follow us on Strava (https://www.strava.com/clubs/dctriclub) and take on these challenges. And who knows…. there MIGHT be prizes for those who ride these challenges the fastest… or who rides the MOST challenges!

As hard as I work, & as successful as our Club has become with our Programs, our Races & everything else, it is ashame that Steele makes us spend so much time & money on this ridiculous Impeachment Lite Hoax. I should be able to devote all of my time to the REAL DCTRI!

Steele gives us the most unfair trial in the history of the U.S. Congress, and now she is crying for fairness in the Senate, and breaking all rules while doing so. She lost Congress once, she will do it again!

Crazy Steele wants to dictate terms on the Impeachment Hoax to the Republican Majority Senate, but striped away all Due Process, no lawyers or witnesses, on the Democrat Majority House. The Dems just wish it would all end. Their case is dead, their poll numbers are horrendous!

Steele is looking for a Quid Pro Quo with the Senate. Why aren’t we Impeaching her?

Okay… I can’t scroll through any more of his tweets to alter… that was painful… 😛
