RunBikeDavid replied to the topic information on luray and culpepper olympic tri in the forum General Discussions 1 year, 10 months ago
Hi Susan, I would say the Luray bike course is rolling. Some people consider it hilly but I didn’t think it was too bad, less hilly than Columbia Tri if you are familiar with that one. There is a hill at the start and finish but in between there’s a nice descent and then a false flat/gradual climb to go back up and do it again. The only steep hill…[Read more]

Oh no, sorry to hear! Try emailing gear@dctriclub.org. With NTP starting later this year, I think a lot of them weren’t able to get a club kit so maybe there is enough interest for a fall order.

Welcome Lucie! For open water swim practice, you could try checking out the Wave One weekly swims. Dennis the organizer and quite a few of the swimmers there are experienced in swimming in cold water and can probably give you tips. A tip that I recently learned with swimming in cold water is to put on 2 swim caps!

RunBikeDavid replied to the topic Bike Bag Recommendations in the forum Gear Advice 1 year, 10 months ago
Hi Heather, did you mean a pannier or a saddle bag? If it’s pannier for commuting or bike packing and you would like something waterproof, you could look into Ortlieb or Banjo Brothers (not as pricey as Ortlieb). If it’s a small saddle bag for a spare tube and tools, you could look into Topeak Aero Wedge.

Helping to give away a red Ascent bike trainer for a neighbor. Seems to be in good condition and includes wheel block and skewer. Pick up in Adams Morgan.

Sorry to hear. I don’t know for bike coaches but there are some confident cycling classes including one by WABA if you’d like a refresher for riding in the city? We also have a weekly Zwift on Tues which should be picking up soon with Off-Season Spin if it would help to ride inside?

Yay to John Sener for doing his first triathlon! We also had a number of people that self-trained since there was no NTP this year and I would like to nominate Charles Taylor for RoTY Male who I think did three triathlon races including Luray and Cal Tri DC!
We had a number people doing their first half at Ironman Maine 70.3. In particular,…[Read more]

RunBikeDavid replied to the topic Maryland Gran Fondo in the forum Races 2 years, 8 months ago
You’ll be fine. With a Gran Fondo, you won’t be racing the whole time as only the timed segments count. You can either go hard on the timed segments or take it leisurely like a century ride.
I’m doing the Gran route but anyone can join for any distance. The fun thing about Gran Fondo is that you can sort of ride together in between segments so we…[Read more]

Signed up for Maryland Gran Fondo if anyone else would like to join. They have a team competition where they take the top 3 best times and subtract 15 sec for each additional team member. It would be fun to get a DC Tri Club team going!

The inaugural Pacers DC Half is coming up if anyone would like to run it. It could be a good one if you are training for Marine Corps since it covers the same area around Hains Point and Rock Creek, or a fun one to do as a relay.
If you’d rather not run, they are in need of volunteers if you’d like to help out with Pacers return to…[Read more]

Hi Chelsey, I think the place that the club would go to is Giuseppe’s. There’s also a lot of breweries but that might be better for post-race. Have a good race!
